Sounds like a night. I'm in the garage, bonnet up. Dealing with a drip and a flat.

Donuts. Wheel covers aren't hub caps.
Hub caps, are not dog dishes. ( or poverty caps )
Dust caps, cover the spindle bearings.
Hair pins are not four bars.
    Pistons not slugs.
    Moon, made Moon tanks
Strangely, I'm OK with floor pans called floor boards

Dog House usually makes me cringe but that must be a mid west thing. When I was selling parts for a living I had a guy come in wanting a new “Sparkerlater because his car come uncrunk”
It wasn’t until he set a distributor on the counter I knew what he was talking about

  8. On a more serious note my pet peeve nickname is when people call a starter armature "the Bendix" lol

Not auto related as it could because it’s used so much by drag racers getting interviewed ..Starting the answer any question with words ….”But ah” and “You know I mean” …..man my knuckles would be bleeding every day in English class in grade school if I said thatthat that ever….

Really not the same but Equally annoying, deal with it all the time. When people don't say driver or passenger side and they say left or right and they are talking about the wrong side.

Being raised in a US city ( Philly ) I took to referring to curbside, street side.
My wife looks at me like I'm crazy.
    Sure dear, your right.

    wow !
after speaking English correctly for 60 years, I now have to confirm to your ideas ?
Perhaps Ryan would like to make a ruling on this for all the foreigners that add value to this forum.
I suppose we have two options, leave or learn American English.
Most on here don’t spell correctly, including the ‘locals’, sometimes to the point of their posts being nonsensical.
For many here, English is a second language.
I had always thought the internet was an international thing.
Probably one of the most arrogant comments that I’ve seen on here………:(

Honestly you and others probably speak and have better English/ grammar than I do. And I was born in the USA. Agree with your statement. English is my first and second language it seems. Edit: Just to make note on English and USA obliviously off the previous notation and not to say English originated or is based off here.

It’s not a nickname per se, but I have seen “carburetor” misspelled as “craburetor” more than once, and it always makes me laugh.

I personally believe American Hot Rod slang has been an in progress language since the 30s. I am glad to be a part of it. I don't care what country you are from. I myself am 1st generation American.

These kind of threads never end well. I am locking this before it gets any uglier. Let’s get back to traditional hot rods and customs ok fellas?
