Folks Of Interest Nickthebandit made my day

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Kiwi Kev, Jun 24, 2024.

  1. It is guys like Nick that make the H.A.M.B. Such a great place! I got a box in the mail with 4 gas pedals and misc’ parts that Nick sent out of the goodness of his heart, I guess he took pity on my addiction. At 83 years of age Nick figured he wasn’t going to be needing them so donated them to my collection. A really nice gesture as I know Nick sells a lot of parts on here. Lets hear it for Nick. With a name like @nickthebandit you'd think he'd be stealing stuff instead of giving it.

    Classy move Nick.

Nick sold me this Willys in 1980 that morphed into my favorite hot rod. Thank you.

I've known Nick since the early 70's bought my 34 Willys from him. Good guy.

Thanks, Nick, for sharing. Good and well-deserved Karma for that one! And thanks again Kevin for the awesome shop tour video you posted awhile back! I don't remember who said this and I may be paraphrasing a bit "It's the people, the cars are just the glue that makes this hobby".

Back in the 1970's Nick looked a lot like the actor that did the Frito Dorito corn chip commercials, the Frito Bandito. Think that is when Nick the Bandit arrived. Today he looks and acts a lot like Santa.

  21. Actually I think that my nick-name came from Richie Willet from Malden, Massachusetts. I was buying and selling parts since I was in my late 20's. Richie always referred to me as "nick the bandit". And it stuck. Now-a-days I am very proud of my nick-name.

Nick is amazing in a number of different ways: 1) East coast or West coast he knows just about everyone that touches the hobby. Add in people overseas as well. 2) He knows the way to just about everywhere. Even better, he likely has alternate ways as well. 3) Has excellent knowledge re what parts are what. 4) Shares great stories. 5) He loves interacting and connecting with people.

There’s more, but I’m late to the party and much has already been said.

Finally, not surprised he passed that stuff along.

Back in 1975 I wanted a 1956 Ford Pickup and told about everyone I knew I was looking. Nick called and said there was in Anaheim, California. Flew out, put insurance on it and used the sellers plate to drive it home to Connecticut in five days. Everyone should drive cross-country before they turn 25.
