Rainy day at the San Diego Auto museum, so checked out the new displays. Saw the R&C car at the GNRS in 2018. Based on a drawing by Joe Hennings and promoted as a dollar a pound build.
It is….I talked the builders and he described what it took to go from a drawing to a finished car. I think that Tex did a $1 a pound roadster for CAR CRAFT.
I'd been wondering where that roadster ended up. I think Fred Stebbin's little Crosley engined car favored the Henning and Rich concept, the proportions are too exaggerated on this car, IMO. The Tex roadster was a Ford with Chevy grille, I think....had Pontiac OHC engine. Tex's XR6 was meant to be a homage to that RnC Jennings and Rich concept.
IIRC, Tex Smith's car was the XR-6. A highly modified "T" body powered by a Mopar slant six. The last that I knew was that the XR-6 was part of Malcom Barlow's collection in Tolland, Connecticut
