Nifty Homebuilt Windshield

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by guy with a wrench, May 19, 2005.

  1. This is a work still in progress but I wanted to show it and maybe get some opinions. I wanted a duvall style windshield but looking at the $1000 price tag made me try and build one myself. so far total cost is $45 for the tig welding I had done, and the $8 for having the pieces bent in a brake. Going to use a base plate under the cowl to attach bolts so it will be sturdy and have aluminum bent and cleaned up to sandwich the glass between the posts and aluminum. Not sure I have "esplained" it very well but have a look.

You wouldn't believe all the work we put into those DuVall frames! I used to make the windshield frames for Speedway Motors in Lincoln, NE, and those frames sucked ass ...we got them in 5 cast pieces, made all the jigs to hold them together (and for all the different years), we had to fuse them and blend them just right...took forever but they sure looked nice (probably explains the price!) Sometimes we'd put days of work into each, probably lost money on them. Yours looks like it'll come out nicely, good luck! And if you need any help, feel free to ask
