    Hey guys...

What kind of sacrifice is there when runnin no air cleaner? I've always heard that the grit an **** in the air wears out the cylinder walls an rings... Y'all think the same?

    Thanks... (pondering mechanical fuel injection...)

Yeah, no air cleaner = shorter engine life.

Not a huge issue on dragsters that get frequent tear-downs, but it'll eat up a street motor fairly quick with accelerated cylinder wear.

If you're running a small block Chevy it won't be a big deal...just slide another one under your intake when it starts burnin' too much oil!!!!

Ya might want to protect a valuable motor a little better, though!

I don't run an air cleaner on my mini-bike, but I expect to rebuild it every winter!

There are guys who don't run air cleaners on flattys but with the knowledge they will be changing the oil every 500 miles or so. I use em on mine. They create enough dirt without having to add more. [IMG]

It gets worse, if your not running stacks (or something) you will loose in the performance dept. With a carb you want as much dead air as possible at the horn.
But your planning injectors. Even injectors like to have the air funneled at the correct velocity.
How do you tell if they're tunned right? A stack that's tunned right will crackle. Kind of a static electric sound right up at the bell.

If it don't get ya dirty it aint yours [IMG]

Air filter lids also protect the underside of the hood in case of a carb fire.My uncle just about burned his Impala SS convertable to the ground because he removed the airfilter.

  7. You can put a filter on your injector stacks, and just pull it off when looking good is more important tna engine life. [IMG] [IMG]

Don't forget rain, An air filter of some sort will keep the rain from doing nasty things while driving through a storm.

I also knew a guy who didn't realize this and started his pro street Nova after a rain. The resulting Hydrolock Bent a couple things inside.

    Ouch on the hydro lock!

The setup I'm thinking about is a 90 degree over the valve cover for the stacks... maybe some weber style air cleaner... covering 2 stacks with one cover?

Is it possible to make a lil flat air cleaner to slide inside the stacks? [IMG]

I heard a saying from a family member that states all it takes is a cup of dust to kill an engine. Mainly a problem if you live in an arrid climate like Arizona.

What about on like a 4 port Hilborn blower injector? How do you get a filter on that without drilling holes in the scoop for one of those Mr. Gasket scoop filters?

Nah... Most Model A's have never run an air filter.

They have an updraft carb, which I guess helps with the rain and water problem...
