Hey guys me and electrical current ain't never flowed the same way.... meaning I need some help. I have a 1957 BelAir and when I did the rebuild I installed vintage air. (works great) They indicated I needed to install a 100 AMP alternator, so I did. I used a CS 130. However, now I get no GEN light, idiot light. I did install a volt meter below the dash but I would still like the GEN light to work, even if its not needed. I went to Ron Francis and bought his Low Voltage Circuit and install it. Now I am sure its gonna work when the voltage drops below 11 volts but I was hoping for it to display like the old Chevy did back in the day, when you turn on the key. My question is, is there any way to wire from the CS 130 to the GEN light to get it working like it did in the old days?
Here is a colour coded wiring schematic for you. Print off a copy and laminate it [keep in the garage] There is 2 wires to the gen light. 1: Tan [from 12v ignition switch] and 2: Brown [to gen /regulator] The brown wire is disconnected from the 57 Regulator and goes to the Alt Regulator in the diagram that Gimpy has shown. Be careful with faded colors on these old cars [but a test light or multi-meter will help]
And when you've done it don't try and get all fancy by fitting an led bulb. It won't work! It needs the resistance / load or whatever it is of the regular 5w bulb to make it work. Chris
I appreciate all the help. My CS 130 looks like this.it only has 3 terminals besides the one-wire connection. I did contact Ron Francis support and they said the low voltage circuit won't exact;y like I hoped. It is designed to trigger the light when voltage drops below eleven volts. That means, unlike the original system, the light won't come on when you turn on the key because the battery is above 11 volts to start with. Also, once the system drops below eleven volts i'll most likely lose the pertronix ingnition. So, I guess I'm still looking,
One of the Power Master 100 amp Alternators has a lug on the back for the Ididit light. I used the field wire from the original generator to the regulatorand connected it to the wire which was on the old regulator that when to the dash light. The old regulator is now just a junction point. The Power Master instructions showed how to do it. You may be able to reference it on their site.
