Hot Rods no idle

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by rustedorrotting, Jan 21, 2026.

  1. I am at a loss on my 65 Falcon 289. I rebuild carburetors for older Fords, and I rebuilt a 4100 for my car. I cannot get it to idle! It will accelerate just fine. Timing has been double checked, could I have the wrong pcv valve on it? If you spray carb cleaner into the carb at idle, you can keep it running. Float has been adjusted, up, down, factory settings, nothing seems to work. Help.

Will it idle if you plug the PCV?

Could be a vacuum leak hiding somewhere.
Spray unlit propane along your seals of carbs, hoses and intake.

You either have a vacuum leak or some dirt in the idle circuit. If you find no leaks, you need to pull the carb and really, really clean it. I have taken br*** wire and poked it into every hole in the idle circuit.

Something in the idle circuit not quite right. Take it apart and blow it out again.
