why does everyone always talk smack about the tool trucks????????? you want to build a well respected hot rod or kustom. you look for the right part for months to pull your whole project together and to stand apart from the rest of the crowd. BUT you won't spend the $$ to buy quailty tools to build your dream machine.

ever tried going to pawn shops, tool auctions, internet sites?????

all i have in my tool box is Snap On and i won't lend them out. i have a drawer full of crappy 1/2" 9/16" or the most common requested tools to loan out. that way i'll always have my tools.

SEARS, COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS...(979) 764-0209...Brother talked to the Manager tonight and he said that the rumor "IS NOT AT ALL TRUE IN NO WAY OR FASHION" men....So keep going to return your broken shit. Just try not hitting your old ladies over the head all the time and you wouldn't break your shit men...Just lock away in the closet next time she tells you or bitches about you wanting to work on your ride. The women here don't bitch at all...Hmmmm I wonder why???

  3. THis is a rumor, i work @ the tool section in sears and we do the exchanges often, and most of the tools are us made, sears bought k-mart not the other way around.

  4. P.S. the non us made are companions and we don't exchange them because they, well, suck.

After several bad customer service experiences, I have stopped shopping Sears. This is just yet another bad choice made by a company that used to be good.

At least Harbor Frieght tools are cheap pieces of crap as opposed to expensive pieces of crap. Buying crap? Save money.

I bet that MAC and Snap-On are crying rivers over this. Sears is a bunch of dumbshits that have their collective heads up their asses. Get them shop towels and windex so they can clean their belly windows and maybe save somthing. Killing the catalog was their first of MANY mistakes.

The last couple of times I returned something to sears,it's been a good yr ago or so,they wanted to charge me tax for the value of the tool I had to tell them no way,I already had to pay tax once & that this wasn't even a sale since no $$ changed hands. He changed his mind real quickly & said have a good day Sir.
So I think they might get some orders from above to help generate some $$,or else some hotshot newbe trying to become the new store manager.
So I guess you have to put your foot down & telll them the way it is to not get ripped.

I tried to warrant my S-K ratchet and they said only with sales receipt. It was 10 years old! So now I buy Husky as Home Depot doesn't bat an eye. They may not have an individual socket but they will get it in a day or two.

Actually, it was Sears that bought K-Mart. And their tools are still made by Danaher Corp. They are the same people who make Craftsman, Napa, Matco, Allen, and K-D Tools. They are not junk, you just got a lazy person at Sears that didn't want to do their job.

does sound like a" wives tale" to me, but to be truthful , Snap-on, Mac(matco), S-K& cromwell are all better tools then craftsman. And some have a "lifetime" guarentee.
    Craftsman tools are made for
Shade tree" mechanics If you go to a car dealer of a "professianal mechanic they all have snap-on or another type, not too many Craftsman tool.Sorry to say that but its true.

Hey, Ranger. Not all of us beat our wives and not all of us are anti-union. What this has to do with the exchange of a ratchet I'll never know.

Thanks for the clarification of College Station, TX Sears, though. Keep up the good work and keep your head down. Lost a friend there last November when some fucker took his chopper out while he was at the wheel.

Your right my friend this thread is all about Sears and a silly rumor, yet I know some of my guys do think about tapping our wife over the hood when the subject of cars comes up and they start,..well you know I'm sure. But all in all we rodders don't hit our women, just a figure of speech thats all. Just throw a rodd in them He, He..Only if we can exchange them at times. Take care and thanks for the accolade.:D

I bought a set of craftsman combination wrenches and in that set was a matco wrench, I think it was the 7/16". Looks the same just has the matco name on it. Can I assume that the craftsman is of equal value as matco? I think so. Neal

    2006-2007 Craftsman Tool Catalog:

    WARRANTY INFORMATION
Craftsman Hand Tools are Guaranteed Forever.
If any Craftsman hand tool ever fails to give complete satisfaction, return it to Sears for free repair or replacement.

I worked in the Sears tool department when I was in high school and assholes bringing in broken Craftsman tools found at garage sales were a problem even back then.

This is mostly because the tool truck will come to them vs going out to buy tools all at once. Are some the same...same forging and finish? Fuckin right they are. I happen to prefer not paying the tool guy every week. Too much mark-up, but they're entitiled to a profit and have to pay on their inventory every month. It works for some, not for me. If I can't afford it I don't buy it. Most of my stuff has been bought n paid for for years. None of those trucks have ever done me any good save for 1 or 2. The only good thing is that I get at least 10% off if I buy from the truck and pay cash money. It has it's advantages but mostly I don't play.

19thbreakdown is correct. Many of them are exactly the same tool.

Matco and Sears are made by the EXACT same company. Probably in the same plant, too!

If it's true it's probably because so many people cheated the system. Like finding old broken tools at swapmeets and turning them in for new.

What does it matter whether someone found it at a swap meet or not? Someone bought and paid for that tool at some time or another and according to sears, it's garaunteed for life. Shouldn't make a difference if you ask me! If they give you a hard time, just go to lowes and buy their crap tools. At least they won't give you a hassle when returning them.

No, thank Bill Klintong for NAFTA, shipping all the industry and the building of value added products out of our country. We'll be a nation of shopkeepers like the UK before long.

If you work there then start checking it out and your gonna be suprised at how much craftsmen shit is "MADE IN CHINA".......Just do a physical check on your shift, and not just tools but also check out the floor jacks, jack stands, compressors, Tool Boxes, and other stuff.......If you can't find nothing then it's because they are sending it all to California then because i find it all the time!

I bought a set of Matco wrenches off the truck 7 years ago because I could get the box end on my shovelheads' cylinder nuts and head bolts ,whereas the Craftsman had a clearance problem; too thick of a sidewall. The tool trucks also have some cool shit that you just can't get elsewhere.Btw, I have many different brands of tools in my box.

Unions don't drive up costs--It's the cost of war that drives up prices. One day America will have all the oil, and everyone else will be dead.

Then prices will fall, and we can all go on a safari...

Friday night I exchanged 2 ratchts, a 3/8" universal, and a rusted shut cresent wrench at Sears.
Got shiny new top shelf replacements for them all. No hassle.
The rest of Sears sucks, but the tools are still good.

Wouldn't that put all of the Grenade Inspectors on here out of work?

they would piss off alot of people, and as far as im concerned they would have to honor the lifetime warranty, wards powercraft did up until thet went out of business, they had you go buy craftsman tool and then theyd reimburse you.

I called the local Sears outlet, they said the "Craftsman" lifetime replacement policy was still "good as gold", when I asked about my Son's friend getting a rebuild kit they said they were probably out of that rachet and could get him the kit quicker then the wrench. well that was what I was told,..... either way I think I am going to go through all my tools and make a trip to Sears this week. the only other thing is I have seen more and more tools at Sears that says "Sears" on them not Craftsman, I understand the "Sears" tools don't carry the same guauantee as Craftsman.

I have Craftsman ratchets, sockets, polished wrenches, and roll-around tool chest that I bought in the early and mid-1980s. I bought them because they were good quality and great value. I've never had a problem with any Craftsman tools.

There are many other brands of tools in my toolbox, including some Snap-On tools I bought in the 1970s. When I need to buy a particular tool, I do a bit of research to see what's out there.

By the way, back in 1992, when I was working at a race shop right by Charlotte (now Lowes) Motor Speedway, there was a Craftsman tool truck, very similar to the Snap-On and Mac Tools trucks, that would visit the race teams that were sponsored by Craftsman. At the time, the driver mentioned that we could expect to see more of their trucks in the future. Guess that's not going to happen.

What they should do is mark everything sold AFTER the K-mart buy out as KRAFTSMAN , and continue to honor the lifetime warranty on Craftsman tool.

But yeah, I've also noticed a turndown in quality of Craftsman's stuff the past few years, it's a shame.

I've had Craftsman tools since the 60's. The ratchets were good, but finally broke and I exchanged them. The replacements don't seem to last a year. The last tool I bought from Sears was my compressor. I had to rebuild the motor after about 3 years, and a year after that it broke a connecting rod. I got the replacement elsewhere.

I inherited some KMart stock when my sister died. They gave her stock instead of a raise. Then they filed bankruptcy and screwed the stockholders, while paying their execs multi-million dollar bonuses. Now they merged or bought Sears. I haven't been in either a Sears or Kmart store in years....and won't be any time soon.
