Not a conspiracy, perhaps, and not driven by simple greed; but a very real process, and intrinsic to a system of economy that works on a basis of doing too much.

If you're into that kind of thing, read "The Technological Society" by Jacques Ellul. It's a heavy read but an important work.

Anyone keen on discussing how government, economics, ecology, technology, and personal creative liberty fit together (or more often don't), try my Artisanal Cars discussion group. The URL is below my signature. It's been quiet, and I'd really like to get some debate going there.

Whats this said welding cert cost Is it a one time thing . If you know you are a good enough welder then there should be no problem getting the cert . At the end of the day having that kind of qualifications can't hurt .

The responses about certification "to what" are right on. This law is so poorly written it clearly has been written by some WA "do gooder" that knows nothing about reality, has no scientific facts about what a good frame is or is not, but over reacts to some glorified incident in the news. The state is full of them and unfortunately, it's a slippery slope. It always starts out innocent enough, then you get piggy back laws on top of others and some obscure court case that establishes a precident and the next thing you know, the only thing we're hot rodding is John Deere lawn mowers. I've seen it time and again in WA.
Sorry for the political rant, but this is way to close to my hot rodding heart.
