Assuming that I make it to 122 yrs. old then "Mid Life Crisis" would be in play. I do find this coupe to be interesting if a little flawed from my ideal must haves.

  2. Deuces are over rated and over priced. Unless you built it yourself it is nothing more than a status symbol. Granted I do live in a house that I paid 12K for 11 years ago. So maybe I am not the best one to ask when it comes to scooping one up.

Midlife crisis is not based on age as much as it is based on actions.

  3. As I see it , with todays situation in the economy. It would be hard to get 52k for a car like that , I think with todays markets that would be in the 37k to 42k ball park. Hell I have over 80k in a brookville 32 3 window and will be blowing another 30k to finish it. See my avitar.

  4. I know right?

If it is thill there that is a cheap entry to the Deuce Roadster Fraternity in the class ads. But it is nothing that a 'chainer would be after. it would be work to make a nice one work being the operative word here. Leme see if I can find it for you. It will make you grin.

Then the person who buys it would want to put an Olds motor in it.

  7. 12K 30x40 steel building to work in, 16 foot ceilings. The house is old and beat up but livable it may be nice before I die. I thought I was buying the property that the house and shop sits on and man that is doable enough. At closing we found out we bought the whole block. Had to refinance the wife's '05 Silverado to pay for the place.

If I was after a Deuce my personal preference is a 5 window and that car is a nice one. It will make someone with the money a nice ride.

  8. Having purchased my first Deuce at 12 years of age I have a long running obsession with 32's.

I traded my 1939 Ford convertible for the stock non running 1932 sedan in my avatar 30 plus years ago and they were overpriced at that time also.

I have been offered stupid money for the car and I often who is the stupidest - the guy offering the big bucks or me for turning it down.

I once saw a plaque on the dash of a high dollar 1940 Ford DeLuxe convertible that read -

'' The two most overrated things in the world are teenage nookie and 32 Ford "

What is a Deuce body worth?
Or any other Deuce part worth?

There is the problem. Most people think that they have gold alloyed into them and get all crazy :D

  10. I just know what I’ve seen the shop I was at pay for a shell.
10k was the cheapest one I seen show up.
Most were in the 15-20k range.
I see original chassis for sale in the 7-8k range.
It’s only worth what someone will pay.
The only 32 pieces I have are some hood latches I found in a box of freebie parts

  12. When I was in High School you were not one of the kool kids if you did not drive a tri five chebby. They were trendy and a running tri five started @ about 750.00. That sounds cheap today, but when I was working full time in a slaughter house it was 80 dollars a week.

It is the same with the Deuce. There is nothing wrong with one. Softer lines than the earlier Fords. The fact that they were the first V8 cars for us should be moot, this is not the 30s and most of us are not restorers. But that is the excuse that I hear all the time. The truth is for most of us is that they are trendy.

I think that there is a distinction for people who have really had a life ling love affair with them. It is less about being kool and more about personal likes. For someone like HRP here it is not about being kool at all it is just what he likes.

  15. Larry, deuce pasts have always been pricey, not in the two distant past the rare original 1932 Ford 25 louver hoods were bring stupid money.I had ran across some parts at a swap meet and I paid up for a pretty nice hood that I just stashed away on the rafters in my old garage.

Deuce Roadster had purchases a 3 window and it came with a 20 louver hood and wanted a 25 louver, we were good friends and I offered to let him use it and when he found one he could replace it. he wouldn't hear it and suggested we look at ebay and see what they were bringing, sure enough one had just sold and if went for 6 grand .

Randy said I know they are expensive and I will give you that, I told him that was too much and he just laid the cash down and said he didn't want me to ever thing he tried to cheat me, he said that is what they are worth and he did not want a aftermarket hood.

Thankfully I have a original 25 louver hood on my sedan, some people prefer the 20 louver and they are a reasonable.

Nice original grille shells & insert are expensive also. HRP

So what would you guys think a32 three window original unchopped (except for the floors, which were more butchered
than chopped and dont exist) be worth? It has an original chassis
with 40 style hydraulic brakes new firestones on 16 inch wheels
a 59L motor with a 39 trans all assembled. An original firewall
as well as a mint genie grill and shell. Subrails and a nice trunk lid and hood. All window garnishes door latches and a windshied
frame. The roof was filled and finished with lead probably 50
years ago. I do have the gas tank and spreader bars as well.
A few other parts I am sure I have forgotten. The title matches the frame numbers and is in my name. I am considering selling
this. I have entertained a few offers, but all are very low ball.
As stated, 32s are just dont seem to garner the interest or price
they once did. This stuff may appear in the sale section in the near future. If it does I will post it here to remind anyone
who may care to look. I do have considerable monies invested.

  18. Its high for a guy like me that thinks an A coupe looks better (gasp).
Or would prefer a 35/36.(double gasp)
But as far as an employee that built a few, I loved em.
    Are they overpriced? You bet
Worth every penny if it makes you happy.
    But I hate paying a $1.79 for a small bag of M&Ms

  20. It was the same way here Beeno, you were one of the cool kids if you had a 55-57 Chevy, they were more than twice what I paid for my 1954 Ford coupe, even after I installed a 390 Mercury engine in the car after spinning a main bearing in the old inline 6.

I was not one of the cool kids but I didn't care I was dating the prettiest girl in school.;)

And your right about what I like, I was bitten by the deuce bug early and I flirted with several Model A's, and several 1940 Fords even a 39 Chevy sedan but I keep migrating back to my first love.

At this stage in my life I'm happy with my old sedan, but I still dream about another roadster.:) HRP

A very nice car, but I am not sure you'd get that in 2021, but, maybe so.

I would mostly agree with this. It's not that $52k is so out of line for an original Henry Ford 32 coupe built in a great HAMB friendly style, but the OP seemed surprised it wasn't "scooped up", which to me implies it was some kind of great deal, and it aint. I think if he lowered his asking price to the 37k to 42k ball park it would get "scooped up" almost immediately.

  24. As of late I have seen some Deuce parts that have become reasonable again. Grill shells for example or windshield sanctions (damned spell check) stanchions I have even laughed at some of the things I have seen advertised. I was scrolling the class ads last year and there was a complete finished steel roadster for about 28K from the pics and the specs furnished it was a really desirable traditional car (yes even to me). The next ad was for a rusted out hulk of a rolling project for 2K more.

Part of it falls under gotta have it and gonna have it. Danny ( @HOTRODPRIMER ) falls into gonna have one. They are his car of choice and he is gonna have one but not gonna be taken in. The gotta have one guys are why the price is too high.

I sound a little (OK a lot) negative about them. Truth is that I would own and drive one. Probably won't own one. But ya never know.

  26. Who knows, I was surprised when the guy showed up to look at the car, he was a young guy in hid 20's and was very knowledgeable about what he was looking for and what to look for.

He impressed me and it's young men like him that insures the future of building traditional hot rods, he already had the parts to swap out the 4 cylinder for a flathead V8 and a quickchange rear axle/ HRP

And the size of the bag keeps shrinking. It galls me to pay that for a nickel candy bar. That was two pop bottles and a beer bottle when I was a kid.
