    Thanks for the advice.
I re-read the thread as you suggested and you said: "And why is the solenoid NOT activating?? Derrrrr....."

    Now, from the urban dictionary:
    <table id="entries"><tbody><tr><td cl***="word">derrr </td> <td cl***="tools" id="tools_1197041">
    </td> </tr> <tr> <td>
</td> <td cl***="text" colspan="2" id="entry_1197041"> something you say when someone is being stupid
    derrr what an idiot.
    </td></tr></tbody></table>
That was directed at DD COOPMAN, (whom you quoted) and I feel it qualifies as "giving him a hard time" when he was trying very hard to be helpful to the O.P. and giving good advice.
If you had re-read the thread yourself, you would have seen his post (it's number 8) that preceded yours, making you look like a guy that just came here to... hmmmm... Why are you here?

I've just wasted my time reading all 29 of your informative posts, trying to figure-out just what kind of 'car fixing' you've been doing so much of to give you all the expertise and help that you've demonstrated above. 'Bout all I can come-up with is that maybe you're the guy that vacuums and fixes the dirty floor mats at the car wash. DD

Was going to let it go but..... I was an ***hat to Dog Dish Deluxe on my post. I pm'd him and appologized. He accepted appology. I think more of him for responding to my PM and hopefully, he thinks more of me for my PM to him.

Just glad he got it straightened out.

I'm might still be an ***hat to the rest of you but I'm sorry that you had to read what I wrote. I'd take it back if I could.

This should do it.. no lights dimming is a give away

That said usually when they start to go, your starter may be on the way out.. pulling too many amps.

Now I have to deal with the rest of the issues on that truck. Somebody has installed a fuel pump with 2 lines instead of 3, so it's not getting gas. And I'm pulling the quadra junk and putting a much more reliable 2gc (Large base) on it. Start the hate mail now, but simple=reliable and thats what I'm all about.

This is where I would start, after cleaning the battery terminals and posts. If the starter cranks the engine, then the solenoid and starter are good. Trace back from the S terminal all the way back to the ignition switch. This includes clutch and neutral safety switches. I had this issue on my 59 Olds and found the wire from the horn relay/connector block to be open. Weird, but these things do happen.

My initial guess would have been the ignition switch, the thing that the key tumbler on the steering column actuates. Gotta drop the column off the dash, really a 5-minute fix from there.

The check for it is easy. Have someone turn the key to the start position, under the car, check the S terminal at the solenoid with a test light, no light = bad ignition switch or possibly the fuseible link, those are easy to spot, the wire feels like a rubber band when the link is blown.

For his first post, after joining today, he responds to a 5 year old feud. Slow day at the dinner buffet. o_O
