I just replaced the timing chain because it was worn and stretched. Below is a pic of the old timing chain. you can see how much slack was in it.
BINGO WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .025 is way too wide of gap on the points. They probably aren't closing all the way. You did set them on one of the high points of the distributor cam and not the flat? If things are working right you won't get a spark at the points when they open that is noticeable.
Use your finger to block the #1 spark plug & crank the engine & look at the rotor to find TDC, you know how.
Ok, that will teach me to make sure I read through the whole thread. I've seen a lot of cars that didn't run because someone didn't set the points right though.
Felt like it wanted to crank a few mins ago...sputtered just a little..so close. Now I just need to play with the dizzy a little. Just have to find the sweet spot
Do it right , find #1 on compression then line timing mark up on about the 6* mark. Then rotate dist CCW using a test light hooked to the movable point side of the dist.,wherever handy, with switch on turn dist till light comes on. Then wherever rotor is pointing will be #1 ,put #1 wire there and put the rest in order.Lots of times all I ever do to set timing is use the test light,no timing light needed unless you need to check for proper advance function.
She is trying to start but I think a bad fuel pump is holding me up. I will get that switched out in the next day or so
