Are you seriously not getting this? I usually set timing by ear. A lot of people do. I'm surprised you obviously have not heard of it being done. I wasn't able to buy a light because it wasn't available at the parts store, so I borrowed a friends instead. I have a box wrench, but it's hard to reach the nut on the distributor. It will reach, but you risk rounding the head of the nut. The offset wrench makes the job easier to do. I'll write it again... I can set my timing by ear, using the incorrect box wrench that I have. I borrowed a timing light from a friend for accuracy and used the incorrect style wrench. The thread was about my local parts houses not having the correct wrench or the timing light. Their reason was because they don't sell well anymore as fewer people need or use them. I have since, ordered the wrench and a timing light. Got it now?
Actually, my friends with 235's do the same thing and usually don't have a problem. But they wished they had light. Go figure.
Just helping a fellow HAMBER and pointing out the fact that the store I work at has all the "old school" tools that are sooooo hard to find. I am not at work nor at my stage in life do I care to be promoted. I do see on your profile though that at your occupation you just occupy space and may be striving to be promoted to a resident. BTW While being bored at work today I checked for all the "old school" tools that are sooooo hard to find. Everyone of them is in stock ready for purchase.
