I will, now and then, knock on a random neighbors door and somthing like '' i'm usualy
up late tinkering and i noticed a shifty person or two driving/ walking by your place''.
Telling them to lock up there cars and stuff. but that i would keep a look out.
''sence im up late tinkering''. Then when they here me, they feel alittle better about
any noise... like im watching out for them.

LOL, we need to get together and pay my neighbor a visit, 5 friggin' dogs barking all day/night. I've tried about everything else short of packin' heat. On the other hand, he is Nat'l Guard and has an AR, so we might not leave in a vertical orientation...

What he said. Why piss 'em off un-necessarily when you can keep them on your side. It may come in handy later when someone tries to break in to your shop when you're gone. What goes around comes around.

I normally try not to bang around too much past 10-10:30. But there are times that I pull an all nighter working on other stuff and need some car banging work to relieve stress, and the few times I have been beating on rusty parts at or past midnight I've never had complaints. Even when I'm doing loud work during the day most people said they don't care or can't hear it.

I'm lucky to have some cool car people as neighbors though (except one very quiet family, but we get along). One guy likes bikes and rods, another used to do body work years ago, and a guy across the street from me runs a little repair shop out of his garage so he's always checking out the new junk holding my driveway down. Hell, I have one car that I was trying to get running in my driveway a few months back and a neighbor spotted me and came over with beer and helped. When I actually got the thing running on its own power it was loud and was set on the smoke machine setting, the guy said he heard it going and thought it was COOL I had it running finally!

It never hurts to bring some beer over to your neighbors from time to time as a piece offering either...

That's just being an idiot on your part and would've resulted in your**** getting pummeled; screw calling the cops. No excuse for that*****.

Yea bovine flatulence can be noisy but it's better than hearing sirens and goofy kids with fart cans every hour of the night. Heck I'm lucky to hear a siren once every couple of months.

BTW i have horses and sometimes i think they can be louder than cows.:D

Another cam break in story....One Saturday morning my friend and myself were breaking in the cam in our race car at 9:00am. The neighbors to the left of him were having a yard sale. The neighbors to the right couldn't care less. But the ones on the left had a fit. The lady came over stompin mad. Just yelling at my buddy but he couldn't hear a word she was saying cause we were right in the middle of breaking the cam in. Man talk about funny. A inline six sure is loud isn't it......

For the most parts his neighbors are cool. Just that one family. We used to work on the race car till four in the morning but we stop now alittle earlier and try not to crank up the aircompressor after a certain time. If you saw his yard you'd understand why we chill with the noise......

  12. id respect my nieghbours if i didnt have noisy drunkin backpackers on one side and a business that works all night on the other. i live in the middle of my little town and have to sleep with the radio on to block out their noise! if they piss me off to much, i krank the volume up with the subwoofer on. a tired man can be an angry man! lol.

Luckily for me my neighbors are car guys. Bodyman on my right, Mustang guy across the street, 4X4 guy two doors down, and a lowrider on the other side.

I think your neighbor moved in next to me.Everyone else on my block likes my Dodge and even offer to help me load it on the trailer when i take it to race then ask me how it did when i get back.I got the only one that hates open headers living right next door to me ,what a****** .He hates everything and everybody .I never fire it up after dark or rev it ,but i have to start it from time to time. When i do he is right there .Even called the cops on me a few times ,but didnt do any good. The cops told me before they can do anything ,they have to actually hear it them selves ,and then as long as im not trying to be noisy on purpose ,they wont do anything. The said that i have the right to load the car or unload it during the daytime hours ...

There's a way to take care of dogs that bark all night:
    At pet store buy:
1-"silent" dog whistle (whistles at a frequency too high for humans to hear).
    2-aquarium aeration pump
3-hose of correct size to hook them together
Set this up outside and every morning turn it on before you leave for work. It will keep the damn dogs awake all day until you turn off @ bedtime, and they'll be glad to go to sleep!

I have a neighbor that likes to run his chainsaw at about 7am on sat an sun mornings, well every morning he done it I would start my car about 11pm, clean it out a few times, open headers on a big block, he caught on pretty quick. One day he seen me mowing and asked me if I had any mufflers yet, I just grinned and ask if his chainsaw broke. Good neighbor now.

My neighbors dont complain. They are the same ones that use my loaner tools. Told one once that I would rent to college kids if they didnt like what I was doing. Never heard another word.

My neighbours and I have a great relationship--if one of us has a problem another who has the ability/skills to fix the issue helps out. That means that little ol' me with my comet gets to do work on it--without complaints;)

But I do not do this on funny hours----I need my sleep too y'know;);)

I've been really lucky. I live in the burbs where you garage is only 15 feet from your neighbors bed room. Always respect the time/noise factor. Run open headers but let it roll into the street before I start it and shut it off at the curb on the way in.
    Only one complaint;
Forgot to turn off the compressor one night and went out. Of coarse I blew a fitting on the hose reel and it ran till I got home. It's always nice to see your neighbor's wife in her under ware at 2AM. Bough em a pile of T bones and a case of beer and it was all forgotten. I got a double pole timer on it now. Cheaper the the steaks and beer.

What makes the most noise? A chop saw with a metal cutting blade on 10 ga. steel studs.

I'm in a quiet neighborhood with good neighbors and shut it down at dark. It's great in the summer when it's light til 9:30 or so, it's lousy this time of year when it gets dark at 5. We all have wives and kids. I get along with everybody, get compliments on the sounds fo my cars, just keep it where I wouldn't get irritated if my kids or I weren't trying to sleep.

Well, this past weekend, I replaced the header extentions on my T. The old ones had corrosion from battery acid after my accident. I used the old muffler inserts, but I cut off one end. So now they look good and sound bad as hell. About as loud as your average Harley. While testing them out, in the afternoon, the new neighbor pops his head out and comes over. He asked me if it has to be that loud and I repled, "Yup. Almost as loud as your rap music at 7 in the morning."

Needless to say, he had no come back and quickly retired back into his cave. I haven't heard Snoop Dogg in a couple days. Guess I won.
