Hey guys I have a 454 out of a 84 suburban and I want a non hei distributor. The hei is too large and I don't want to cut my firewall to make it fit my 30 roadster. I know I can get the mini hei, but I like the old points style look and the price. What year vehicle came stock with the 454 points dizzy? Auto parts store is no help. Thanks
Any points dizzy from a big or small block chevy should work they interchange...That's the beauty of the chevy...
And since BB and SB interchange that makes for lots of used aftermarket distributors available if you decide to go that route. Mallory, MSD, etc., are all smaller than the HEI.
Ok. I think the 427 is different and I thought there was a difference in the late model 350 dizzy's.?
454 from 1970-74 will work. It has points. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/d...ck=Search_02780_5173558_-1&pt=02780&ppt=C0334 and btw the 350 distributor is pretty much the same. They had different advance curves, but if you get a rebuilt one who knows what it'll have in it.
The numbers on my distributor says it's a 427 unit, it's in my 283. Should be lots of possibilities for a dist. Tim
348/409 are the only odd balls in Chevy land. The early 265 had a machined notch so it had too be clocked correctly to let oil flow. Other than those exceptions any distributor will fit the block and make sparks.
