Non-OT... used pallet rack in NE GA???

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Mac the Yankee, Jun 7, 2013.

  1. I need organize my shop (translate as, my 1 1/2 stall garage), and am looking for used pallet rack in the NE GA area.

I only need two 8'x8'x3' racks with 8 shelves total- anyone have any leads/ideas where I might find some?

Have you tried the Yellow Pages-maybe for Atlanta or some larger city in your area. Check for Material Handling Equipment-used. I've bought quite a bit of it here in Indy from folks in the "used" business.

  4. Thanks guys, will try the Yellow Pages- Craigslist has been a bust.

Just a friendly word of advice, i've got 3 racks in my shed and they take up a hell of a lot of room. Although they do hold a fair bit of gear it has effectivly turned my 2 bay into a 1 and 1/2 bay, there's just no way to get another car in there.

After talking to the landlord i'm putting up a garden shed in the back yard to put them into and building a rolling workbench with storage under to hold most of my tools and free up space.

  6. I hear you- will only have one car in the garage right now, so both racks will fit nicely.

Will transfer one (or both) of the racks to a (future) shed in the back... once it's built :D

It should work out for you nicely then, just be aware that you will only buy more parts once the racks are up and half empty

  8. Mac,
I actually was looking up prices on used pallet rack for my neighbor last weekend and there are a bunch of places you can buy that stuff on line, google it and see if there is a place near you.

I googled used industrial shelving. That stuff is cheap, like about 20 dollars a stick for uprights and 15 dollars a stick for horrizontals.

Can't remember the name right now... There is a place on the east side of Atlanta, right off of I-20 out towards Conyers, outside the perimeter, that deals in such things.

  10. There ya go. ^^^^

While I am thinking about it I have some roll around stainless shelving in my garage that I picked up cheap at a local restaurant equipment supply. They sell used equipment. Shout enough to hold a B&M hydro in on one shelf.

A buddy has an old model T frame that he picked up at a swap meet with some 1" square tubing welded to it that he leaned up against a wall and uses for a rear end rack. Just an idea.

  11. Very cool- will look into Conyers (going rack hunting tomorrow with Stevie G), AND do a little googling tonight, PnB!!!

  12. Well, Conyers was up to $400 without any decking, so that's out, but I may have a good contact in Canton... bit of a hike, but it may be worth it- will let you know :D

    Hmmm...
I can't say I'm sure for that area. I only know of a few places that are close to me. I know they deliver but for small quantities would probably be too high $$$.

If you're still looking I'll ask my buddy down there if he knows of anyone that sells it cheap.

  14. Check With Southern Surplus in Athens. They might sell some of theirs or be able to tell you where they get them.

  15. Thanks, Kewl Bus- I have tried them a few time with no luck. The deal in Canton worked out, and Brad, Stevie G, and I all wound up getting some a t a fairly decent price :D

Just a thought but if you buy the right racking they could be used as the structural members for the shed you pan to build. Many new designed racks not only hold material they hold up the building so even used "good condition" racking could replace the typical 2 x 4 construction of a shed. The price you were quoted may just offset the price of some of the materials in the shed.
