My 58 Biscayne w/ a 235 has the oil canister on the manifold. I posted awhile ago about a copper washer on the hold down screw for the cap.. no leak there anymore. Then after a week I started my car @ 430am to go to work and heard some nasty gurgling... canister cap gasket must of gone on vacay cuz a waterfall of oil out from under the cap. Got new gasket and filter from the car shop and ...wow no more leak. But just this week I was driving around and my oil light came on. Check under the hood and now its seems to be leaking out the bottom fitting. Q: can I just connect the hoses together and remove my filter canister so I can look for anything I need to repair? Is it ok to run without the filter. I heard some 235's never had filters.
don't connect the hoses together. Just plug both of the holes after removing the hoses from the engine. This is a byp*** filter, not a full flow filter. It was an option, it is not really needed.
How did I know Squirrel to the rescue! Could I just plug the ends of the hoses? Same thing right? I wanna possibly put it back.
I'd remove the hoses and put a 1/8" pipe plug in the holes...that way you don't have a pressurized oil hose flopping around next to the hot exhaust pipe, etc.
Thanks for the suggestions. Just ripped off the canister took off the hoses and fittings that are pipe to barb and off the the parts store for some pipe plugs.
