I don't recall if he was a hot rodder - but he was the first black touring drag racer... anyone remember Malcolm Durham? He ran a series of racers named Strip Blazer - stock classes, then AFX, Funny Car, and finally Pro Stock. I think his sons still build and race cars.

 

There is the lowrider, largely Hispanic scene . . . and then there is the mostly Hispanic Bomb scene . . .

On this ^^^ thread are more Hispanic Hambers who have moved on, including @Deadender60 and his Deadend magazine crowd, and the Los Boulevardos C.C. crowd, among others. As in most old threads, most of the 3rd-party hosted pics are gone. I wish this crowd was still active on the HAMB so we could enjoy this scene with fresh pics. I get my fix now on IG.

 

Wendell Scott may have only had one NASCAR Grand National Win but he had several in the NASCAR Sportsman division and was the 1959 Virginia State NASCAR Sportsman Champion.

However his career in the Grand National Series shouldn't be judged by one win, in 495 starts he had 20 Top 5 finishes, and 147 Tops 10s!

He finished 6th in points 1966 finished, his career-best , and the start of four consecutive top-10 points finishes.
