Well, howdy, all! My name is Wayne, and I'm an alchol....wait, wrong forum....I mean car nut! I decided to join in here as this site dovetails nicely with my hobby of fabricating street rods and scooters. Finding a site like this, geared towards folks like us, I get all warm and fuzzy. I've belonged to a number of other car forums for some years now, in addtion to Metal Meet (a wonderful site for metal fabricators), but none dedicated to 'old iron'. Hopefully, I'll be able to learn a lot here - and maybe help someone else in the process. I've been fabricating and building for over 25 years, so you can imagine all the mistakes I've made getting over the learning curve. The only 'old' iron I have isn't really all that old, but at 44 years old, it's getting long enough in the tooth to qualify a little. My extremely long-lived project is a 1965 VW Karmann Ghia that I'd gutted and built a full tube frame/rollcage, suicide doors, tilt rear, and tilt front. It's been widened down the middle 12", as well. It has a 1970 Olds Toronado 455 in mid-engine configuration (hence the tilt rear). There's a lot more about this love affair that I could talk your ears off about, but I'll leave all that for another time. I'm also working on my custom hardtail scooter that, hopefully, I'll be able to complete before the Ghia.
Welcome from Wisconsin. (widened 12" down the middle)? ****, Id love to see some of that metal work. Any pics? Sounds sweet!
