I just told you about my 1959 Lincoln. It's a factory limo. One of nine left and the biggest and most expensive american production car of the 1950's. Sold new in Hollywood California and I've been trying to trace it's history. The car has sat in a warehouse in Hollywood California since 1972. It remained rust free and undisturbed for the last 34 years until my guy picked it up last night to bring it to me. He got rearended by a semi and pushed into another semi late last night. He just called me this morning while I was standing in the driveway waiting for him to deliver it. The car is totalled. It was worth about five times what I paid for it but I'm told that I'll only be reimbursed what I can provide receipts for. I'm sick. I'll have pictures in a few hours I hear. This could be a car with real history. Now it's dead.

Was that Steve hauling it from Northern Lights (?) and if so, is he ok ?

Sorry to hear about your car Scoob.

Like any other car, you'll find another unusual one to play with soon.

    Sorry Man.

That sucks big time!! I too hope the damage is overblown on the first report--- but getting scrunched between 2 semis could indeed put a super hurt on a car.

is it totalled in the insurance companies eyes or is it really totalled beyond repair?

  8. I guess it depends on what kind of rig he was hauling it on, how bad it will be. At least it sounds like he was okay.

As much as it hurts, I would hang onto it long enough to try to track the history down. If it did belong to someone famous, there is a good chance that unless it looks like it went through a car crusher sideways and is now 18" or so long, someone will want to save it. I mean, if it was just any old '59 that would be one thing, but if it has the potential to be worth $100K and up, it begins to make sense to spend the time on it.

totalled is in the eye of the beholder, anymore, also - it just means the repairs cost more than the car is currently stated to be worth, it doesn't mean unfixable.

I know a guy who had a rare Shelby Mustang and was driving it daily - he has money to blow - and had to swerve to miss someone stopped in front of him. Car went over a guardrail sideways into some trees and rolled, thankfully no one was hurt. The last I heard, his mechanic was getting it back together - the guy's going to be able to retire when he's done, but the car will be fixed again.

Anyways, hope it doesn't turn out to be too bad -

That sucks. Hopefully noone was hurt.
Was the thing Uni-body like the other Lincolns of that year, or did they put it on a frame when it was stretched? Or didn't you even get to check it out that close?
I'd imagine that if it's all unibody that might make it an even bigger pain in the ass to fix, if it's even remotely fixable.

    Good luck.

I got the pictures just now. Too big to post here. Maybe I can e-mail em to someone and get them resized? It's pretty impressive. Everybody was okay and I don't know how. It was two semis, a full size pickup, trailer, 6500 pound lincoln and some other car that I can't recognize now. Nobody got hurt. It wasn't Steve. Steve couldn't get to it and hired this guy to do it. He has a $5000 deductable and wants to pay out of pocket. He has the bill of sale for the car which shows the ridiculously low price I paid for the car. That's obviously what he wants to pay me. The car is worth probably ten times that amount....well, it was until a few hours ago. I'm sick. I think the car is fixable actually but it's got frame damage and will need totally new front and rear clips. It's got about $10k worth of damage that it didn't have yesterday. The car had never been hurt before...no rust, no accidents.

I'm glad everyone is okay. I'm just despondent because I was really counting on this car.

Ooof . . . . I don't think Maaco can fix that one. Glad to hear nobody got hurt . . . hope insurance will help out on that one. Document everything to the hilt and don't back down on anything.

Let me guess, It looks like it was a construction zone having 2 lanes yielding to one and obviously somebody wasn't paying attention and going too fucking fast.

I travel ALL the time and 80% of the highway accidents is this crap.

    Sorry Scoob.

Thank God nobody was hurt, cut your losses and move on.
Another car has your name down the road somewhere.

    That's fixable.
    Did the truckers have insurance?
    Maybe you can tag them.

Damn, that blows flying monkeys. Sorry to hear about. At least no one was hurt. But the just fucking sucks. A real survivor, and done in on a trailer. That looks like some hefty fixing too, the way its crushed. Are you going to give a go, anyhow? It would be a good line in the story of the car really. I think it deserves another chance at life.

    That still really blows though.

Did you find out details? Whose fault, really?

Did you get an appraisal on it before the accident?

That sucks...but it looks like it might be rebuildable from those long pics anyway. Lots of work but...???

Is the front the same as any 59 Lincoln? How about the quarters back?
Seems like the main part that makes it the actual Limo survived.

Best of luck on this one...thats one cool car...even if you went ahead and saved it by customization! You wouldn't have to worry about seeing 3 or 4 more pull into the meet behind you either.

If he got rear ended by a SEMI - why does your guy want to pay out of pocket?

or does the SEMI owner have the 5k Deductible? - and who the hell showed him the Bill of Sale!!! -

Doesn't matter what you payed for it.

Do you have any pictures of the car before the accident? - that you can have a collector appraiser look at along with the now crunched up car to give you something that says its worth alot more than you paid for it.

Any documentation that it is that rare?

The trucker will still have to file a claim even if he has a $5k deductible (Which is dumb:rolleyes: ) so I would tell him no that you want to go through insurance - your going to have an easier time proving to an insurance company of it's worth than that guy since he already knows what you paid for it.
(I know that sounds really stupid...but You DO have a better shot @ convincing an insurance company of how much it is actually worth)

I assume that you did not have this insured yourself???
