    Fender less is good.
Fenders should be the tight wheel enclosing pontoon sort of Bugatti style that turn with the wheels up front and stationary out back but float with the suspension.

Looks like a B***et Hound. But I like fenders, maybe if you sectioned them some. 3 inches or so...? I really am digging the British vibe there, don't go fenderless. Cycle fenders if nothing else.

If you are thinking about running fenders on a hotrod, you might want to evaluate where the appeal is. Pretty much everyone here, who likes the fenders wants them to flow more. The ones who don't like them want to see cycle fenders, more wheel shape/less fender. Do that!
What I'm suggesting is, minimum gap over the tire for fender clearance. Tuck the fender shape inboard/toward the center of the car. Remove the outer curl of the fender so that it reveals the wheel. This would change from a traditional fender shape and into the realm of a fender shaped splash-pan. Very minimalist, which is what hotrodding is all about.

    Just my thoughts ...

i think if you made the side of the roof where it meets the qtr panel, a half circle to the door opening, taking the squareness out of it, and lowered the rear fenders to hug the tire, it would look a lot better. then try the hood without front fenders, and see what she looks like. maybe a photoshop guru can do a couple of different versions of it. cool car.

Alex, you don't need no stinking fenders! It's not like you live in upstate NY where it is either raining, or it is ABOUT TO RAIN OR SNOW! Your car is just too cool the way it sits. You shouldn't fool with perfection...

I liked the mock up with the hood - that did add something.

    Thanks guys...

I've played with the idea of fenders on this car before, but I think this was the last time.

I dont like cycle fenders that much, so thats out too.

If I really was going to do this, I'd probably scratchbuild something like these on this Alfa Romeo.

There is some fabwork I still need to finish ( its been on the road for about 10 years now, and that doesnt get done because its so much fun to drive...)

For paint I'm thinking Dark Green.

Cool cars without fenders are a dime a dozen, easy. I think the fenders have a lot of potential. Won't be easy to get just right. So, if you want to roll safe and easy, go without. If you want to have something ultra kick *** and different, keep at it and make it happen. You got the skills, you can do it.

edit: if that other guy can take a '70s MG and put fenders on it and make it look great, this shouldn't be anywhere near as hard to pull off with equally great results.

Fenders are calling your name, eh?

Then go for it. With your skill you will get the proportions and flow right. I really like the Alfa lines, and in British racing green it would be killer.

I completely agree, but I'm not sure it would still look like a hot rod. Just depends on the direction you want to take it. Good either way.

If you're going dark green, I'd really vote for the Alfa fenders.

I would like to see another exploration...lose the '32 fenders, try '28-9 as several others have suggested, for lighter and tighter look. I'd mock up with light primer, then put on black tape to see what shortened and trimmed fronts on those fenders would look like. In back, fenders need shortening and narrowing til they barely comtain the tires. Front fenders could end with triling edge cut down to a taper...or have a thin runninboard with chrome strips ala Riley, continuing up back fender...
If you could pull that off, and figure out a way to make the extra junk easily removable, you'd have two different cars and only have to pay for one set of tires...
'32 Fenders definitely out. I'll haul them away...

Unless you have to run fenders (local legal issues), I'd go fenderless, it is, after all, a hot rod!

I like the fender in the profile, they add swoop and breakup the postnbeam lines, the frontal view needs work. Need to lose the inner apron where they tye to a nonexistant hood side. Keep playing with it, might have something going on there.

I can see through the "Dumbo" down to what you are trying to do. That car is just so great as it is. And that is EXACTLY why you have been driving it for ten years without doing ant more major modifications to it.

I think fenders are entirely possible to pull off but I think with a different starting point. Tucked in as close as you can to... everything.

I think you hit the nail on the head Kevin.

When I first built it I had a very clear " picture in my mind".

And since then, I've done a couple of small tweaks here and there to get it closer to it.
    But nothing major.

This would be, and you just gave me the best reason not to do it.

Thanks again for all the input everyone...

She is going to stay Fenderless.

If you got to run fenders. Do them like they do across the pond. Nice small suttle ones.
