Between the mid 70´s and 1990 I had a buisness relationship with Norris Barsumian acting as the Scandinavian importer of motorcycle racing camshafts and related products. Norris, his wife Peggy and their two sons Bruce and Brian were running Norris Cycle Products in San Clemente, CA. At the age of 60 Norris retired in 1988. The two sons were running the buisness still for a couple of years. Finally part of the business was sold to Megacycle Cams in San Rafael, CA. Earlier Norris Barsumian in cooperation with Norris Baronian was running the company Norris Racing Cams mainly manufacturing automotive camshafts. In early May 2008, only six months before his passing, Norris was over here in Sweden visiting. Actually it was the first and only time we met in person. My wife and I had plans going to Reno, Nevada to see Norris when we got the chocking message of his very sudden passing away. Norris was most active until the very end of his life. I miss him.
I am still stocking several Norris motorcycle camshafts of different kinds if anyone have the interest.

Norris Barsumian was also known to some of us as the electric shop teacher at Taft High School in the 60's. Before he left teaching to go in the cam business he used my Yamaha motorcycle for a prototype for a performance 2 cycle engine rotory valve. My bike used to beat the pants off of some of the larger bikes. He used to live close to the school so he rode his black Norton Atlas to school every day and parked it next to his classroom. He was working on motorcycle cam profiles in the classroom in his free time. He was quite a guy.

  7. Norris was my electric shop teacher also. My girlfriend at the time and I used to baby sit their children, Bruce and Brian when they lived on Penfield. Norris and Peggy were wonderful people. I remember his mother Alice and her husband. I remember cutting masters out of 1/4 inch steel and the checkerboard entry to the store on Calvert St. in Van Nuys.

Thought I'd drop a comment in here: Have been building a 1967 Ford Fairlane 500 with an original from the boxes NASCAR 427. Have always opted for original time line parts and ran across a Norris Cam kit on ebay someone had found in L.A. and bought it. Came in a box wrapped with original 1967 newspaper with the classifieds. Was a blast to read that alone. Set the cam in the build and have been waiting another 3 years till recent. Was again firing it up today to tweak it in and gotta say that cam makes the ole tunnel port growl angry. Power band is 3~7 K and man it sure gets the adrenalin pumping when you bring it up to that. Feel its a nice piece of Nostalgia brought back to life. Thought I'd post the cam card as above should anyone need it.

Just spoke to the guy at Norris today. I am putting a SBC 421 together that has a Norris Solid roller cam. I needed the cam card. Extremely nice guy to talk to. I am a old VW guy and to buy a engine and find out it has a Norris cam was cool. He was very helpful in helping me out with the cam specs. Thanks a million! I cant wait to hear this monster come to life.

Hi All - I discovered this thread by a search for info on old MegaCycle cams, specifically for the Honda CB450 motorcycle. I'm currently running a new set of cams from them and I'm not entirely happy with the results, and I'd like to know the specs on a set I bought from them back in the '70s that they simply called "drag grind" but unfortunately when I sent my cams to them to be reground, Jim said he didn't recall the cams by name from back then and didn't have the specs. They were very popular when I bought them right off the shelf in '73 so someone could know the specs - I believe they had more duration than the ones I have now, they were far more radical and came on strong around 5500 and pulled like a beast up to 10,500. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? thanks very much in advance for any help locating these specs.
