    A) its REALLY going to happen B) shaggy thats awesome man, thats the kind of support im hopin for ya know, other than actual racers is people who love this form of rodding and just want to be a part of it regardless C) jeff i would expect nothing less! haha that a-bone belongs on the lake bed.

letter of intent is almost done, it just needs small portions filled in where we are working out parts of our planning.

I love your drive to get started. If the timing in 2009 is right, I'll try and drive up. Keep up your focus and keep asking questions, there are people that will help you get this done. Good luck to all involved.

ok so heres the a plan folks. would all car clubs interested in running an entry in this event please email me and post so in here. this way i can come up with a plan as to what can be done, im not getting as much support or help as anticipated. the way SCTA does things is various clubs that are members of the timing association, and each club takes turns sharing a responsibility to the events (for the sake of this we'll say el mirage) on going. if i can get a list of clubs that would become NCTA members than i can take the next step of getting things going and the weight of all this is not solely on my shoulders. we have some people in place to take care of planning right now but need more input and support.

as a side note, i believe i mentioned this already but the rules and descriptions of the various classes we will have to run in are available on the NCTA's myspace page in a blog.

This is an awesome idea. This could have very positive effects for all (racers, town, etc.)

If it's going to be next year and it fits with my work schedule, I'll make the drive there to drink beer, ogle rides, lend a hand and make smartass remarks. I might not be all that bright but I can pick up heavy things.

awesome, interest is sparking back up, this is good.

mike miller, this is great, if you make it out there if you could, please find the best place of entry and try to get as many detailed pics of everything you can, and most of all take note of the surface of the dry lakes bed.

so, i would also like at this time to compile the listing of NCTA endorsing clubs. i will go through this posting and then post a reply with a list of the clubs.

just as an aside it is encouraged that clubs build a car specifically meant for this event, since there will be safety requirements such as roll bars and what not needed. for example, this is the car my club has to campaign...

although unfinished, it will be in the modified roadster class. if you dont know what class your vehicle will run in please refer to the myspace which has a blog containing the class descriptions.

What if we create one of those Social group things to discuss this on and poll interest??

  16. The Swindlers are building a dedicated race car to run at Bonneville and the NCTA. FYI.

By the way, what's the Myspace page address?

    that would rock.....

  22. Like I say I am 260 miles from there and the plan is on for this week end the mop squeezer is going with me. Goggle earth shows 2 access roads one is 30.5 miles from Denio that gets you to the lake its self, looks like there is a huge dost flat north of it and it looks like there is a road up there north of Andrews that goes in to that. I'll stop at the store and ask some questions. I sent you a PM today about my intentions and I think this would be an awsom project, might even consider joining a club if it was dedicated to racing.
I am going to trailer a car I don't care much about to drive around out there so I will check the surface.

I'm in SoCal and have been following this thread with interest. Organising an event on your own is from difficult to impossible. The SCTA rules come from experience and you would be well advised, if you do get to run this event, to follow them for whatever classes you plan to run. Reading some of the posts I get the feeling that some of the contributors that want to run will be bringing up relatively fast street cars and will want to run without roll cages or 5 point harnesses. A few years ago the SCTA did away with the roll bar for cars under 125 and also did away with the shoulder seat belt. A car grandfathered in crashed and the driver submarined under the seat belt, was thrown out of the car and seriously injured. So now its a full cage and 5 point harness even for under 125mph cars. Also running to SCTA rules will give those who go fast a lot more "cred".

The clubs that make up the SCTA are directly involved with the running of each El Mirage meet. Each club has a certain responsibility which varies from setting up, to running, to tearing down. With serious fines for failure. I would assume that your dry lake would be under the control of the BLM. The SCTA pays the BLM a percentage of the entry fee (3% I believe) for the use of the lake. Starting this month there will be an entry charge to use the El Mirage off road area. The SCTA has struck a deal with the BlM for a cheaper rate for racers but only on race dates. But that is irrelevant to your plans.

El Mirage entry fee is $40 for SCTA members (and you have to be a club member) to be an SCTA member. Guest entries are $125 and guests can only enter twice a year. Entry for Bonneville is $400 pre-entry and $500 post. Plus class changes are $300 (Ithink). So $300 for such a special event would not be unreasonable considering the expenses you will have. But please, put safety ahead of all else.

I will wish you the best of luck and pray that you can pull it off. Its a tough row to hoe. One question. Will bikes be allowed? Or will it be restricted to those who need four wheels to stay uright?

I'm glad this is picking up steam again. I wont have any thing to race right away but would be glad to go hang out and help out with what ever I could. I went to your myspace and read the classes and think that the 1938 year cut off in some of the classes might be a big limiting factor. will you be letting later model cars run? Maybe a vintage class and a late model class. I think with the small amount of people that would be able/willing to attend this event maybe letting anyone with the right safety equipment run and you might have a better turn out. Just something to think about. I know you might want to keep it traditional but it might turn some interested people and good support away. Just my 2 cents

  30. firingordr1: Hooooooold on there wilber. We have not got the feasability study done yet. I will look at the site this weekend and snap some pictures to post. check on things like emergency services, cell coverage, access, and the length of the lake. as for the rules and politics my suggfestion to the group is to go with scta's rules. This dry lake is in a portion of Oregon that is referred as the boondocks, It is remote. after this weekend we will know more.
