The original Ardun heads (from an early Ardun price list) in 1950 were $479 per kit.
There were also at least 6 sets of V8-60 Heads priced at $600 per set. Apparently,
the V8-60 heads (all 6 sets) were later liquidated at $375/set and were purchased
by someone in the bay area way back then. Not sure if any of the rare V8-60 heads have ever surfaced. ( Note - I just found
out that they have indeed surfaced and been offered for sale)

The original Arduns were meant to be used in conjunction with a very high dome
piston that was available for $36 to $68 (per set) depending on compression ratio and finish.
The piston were sold in Compression ratios ranging from 11.6 to 13.6 to 1.

Ardun Specific cams were also available from among others, Ed Iskenderian, two grinds listed below

With just the heads bolted on, the were good for 160hp. (Add the Ardun spec cam and shove some high comp pistons down the holes for additional hp)

Here's Just a few pages that I recently scanned from the Ardun Bible (long out of print)....

To all the whiners complaining about TODAY's prices for these. Did you ever stop to think WHY there were only 300 (or so) sets originally? Yep, YOU couldnt afford them in 1947 and 60 years later you still cant afford them.

I saw & heard Don Orosco fire up the So Cal Coupe at the LA Roadster Show about 5 years ago......in fact I have the whole sequence on videotape.......it was one of the most impressive things I have ever heard/seen........people were cheering and yelling as he goosed it up into RPM's that scared me!!! It's a wonder that Don didn't blow it up!!! When he shut it down there was silence at first and then one guy yelled, *Who's got a woodie??*....and the crowd that had gathered went nuts with cheering and clapping......

    It was scintillating........simply scintillating...

Aren't the new versions supposed to have all the bugs worked out?? and half the price at approx $14k???

Anybody running the new ones?? They also have aluminum blocks only with their head purchase?

  12. Yep, and you can buy a fibreglass duece too.

Just something about having the real deal I guess.

  13. My Father built the Ardun for the SoCal coupe. Heck of an engine and an interesting story about it's trip out to California. :)

That's how I ended up with the flathead/Ardun bug also. I've been around them since I was old enough to walk.

True. They were quoted at $479 in 1950. Guess what else $479 would buy in 1950? A pair of '32 coupes.
