CB, I haven't done much maintenance on my MK8 lately as I've been putting my energy into the roadster build, and I'm still hoping I make it!
But the MK8 has turned ET around 14.95 @ approx. 95 mph in the past @ Commerce. All on 281cid! That DOHC 32 valve mill ain't no slouch!
You gotta lotta inches on me, but rpms are on my side, along with weight. Might be an interesting race!

Scot, now that I think back, it's the other MK8 I retired awhile back that turned the 14.95 @ 97 mph. It had a chip plus true dual exhaust with Magnaflow mufflers and a chip. Also had slightly lower profile tires, wider with a smaller OD.
The one I now drive turned the 1/4 in 15.14 @ 95. It is totally stock powertrain wise and has the stock exhaust.

Hope you work it out Stew.
Scot, I haven't given up on the roadster, and still hope to make it. But it will be on skinny bias ply Coker WWW, so my times will be sorta slow on the 60' mark!
Not a lot left to do if I don't hit any more problems and the rest of life doesn't interfere.

  10. I'm going down to my shop today and get a jump on some maintenance on the coupe. Still looking for flyers if anyone has talked to Jamie (sp?) I may get my daughter to draw us one up

Jamie is Redsled's son and he has talked to Jamie about flyer design and posting here so you can print and post wherever.
    Jamie should have ready soon.

As usual HAMB is hauling ass! dropped 4 pages in 2.5 hrs.. Maybe a bump for Sun aft. folks will bring this to the attention of someone who hasn't as yet spotted this thread and they will want to comment.
This is a joint effort of a lot of folks and we'll always be open for questions, commenta, and suggestions for stuff to do/see at the venue within limits of what we are allowed to do by the owners and authorities, who BTW, are about as good to deal with as anyone could want within reason.

Did not know but the Drag Racers reunion is in P.C. the same weekend. Have to toss a coin and see where to go.

Your choice, for sure, but IIRC P.C. is 1/8mi? Reynolds is full 1/4mi, plus all the good stuff like cars on display, swap meet, and camping if you wish to join us.

Reynolds has been my home track since it opened (except while I was in Iraq, Detroit, and Maryland). We even hold the record for having the only car to go over the side of the track. Ed is the best at running a track!! The only reason for the P.C. event is that my racing partner's father is 80 this year and ran modified production and Gas in the 60's with his willys at warner robbins, phenix, and a lot of tracks in the south. He is not getting any younger and neither are some of the racers at the event. We wish to take him to exercise his memory and hear some good lies.
It is a hard decision. I like the southern slingshots. We have a mark williams front engine dragster kit that needs building.Just toooo many projects. I may see you there, who knows. Hope for a good turn-out for the event.

  28. I think I've got an old pic of that Willys  Would it be a white one with 1011 on the side?

No, it was a candy apple dark red car named "Mr Wild One" The driver was Fred McGowan Sr. He was co-owner with Winiferd Johnson. He sold his part and bought a new 1968 Z-28 Camaro and ran E/MP. The car was turquoise green and had a Grumpy scoop. He still has the car today. What would a one owner 68 Camaro with very low miles be worth? Wish he still had the 302, but who would have guessed the value?
I think that the white willys belonged to Hurbert Platt?

  30. Oh okay. I bet that '68 worth a pretty penny. I never knew Hubert Platt to run a Willys but maybe his brother Huston Platt
