Nostalgia Pro Stock, an exciting new vintage drag racing cl*** will make its debut at the Goodguys 2nd Nostalgia Nationals October 16, 7 & 18 at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

The cl*** will also be featured at the Goodguys Friday Night Drags, October 30th at the new ZMAX Dragway. The new cl*** features door cars 1968 through 1978 that were originally intended for NHRA Pro Stock compe***ion.

The cars will be run in two categories. Cl*** I will feature back halved vehicles such as Chevy Camaros, Plymouth Dusters Ford Mustangs etc. 1968 through 1974 vintage. Cl*** II will feature tube ch***is and/or short wheelbase vehicles such as Ford Pintos, Chevy Vegas, Plymouth Arrows etc. 1972 through 1978 vintage. The cars will dial into one of five separate indexes including 8.00, 8.50, 9.00, 9.50 and 10.0.

Heading up the new Nostalgia Pro Stock Cl*** is Midwest based promoter Jeff Johnson of Columbus, Ohio. Johnson, who has over 30 years of racing and event promotion experience, is confident the new cl*** will be well received. “There are a lot of these cars out there that are running in brackets or are just parked because they don’t really fit in. Nostalgia Pro Stock will give them a featured cl*** and really bring some excitement. With the success of Nostalgia Super Stock, a Nostalgia Pro Stock cl*** is the next logical progression,” he said.

The Goodguys/VRA is considering adding Nostalgia Pro Stock to be run as an exhibition cl*** at all of their 2010 Midwest vintage drag races. For official rules, entry information or technical questions, contact Jeff Johnson (614) 268-1181 or via e-mail jeffjohnson426@yahoo.com

Sounds cool, but it's index racing.

looking forward to it! As regards to index racing...when putting on EXHIBITIONS, this is most fun, as a racer. It then becomes man to man and as a racer, nothing is better. Good close races and photo finishes for the fans are fun

I don't like racing where you can go 'too fast'.

The alternative is racing dominated by HUGE money. Very few privateers in heads up racing of any category.

Bracket racing historical cool old **** seems like a pretty cool idea.

  7. Going backwards is really tough in door cars. I'm afraid it will just look like vintage Super Gas with PRO on the back window.
This idea has been kicking around for a couple years with very little interest from vintage racers.

It's fun to drive a bracket car but sitting in the stands is pretty lame.. I have more fun watching and listening to the group of old black guys that bet a buck a race. Now that's entertainment!

As long as the rules require a clutch, a tunnel ram and two 660s, it sounds good. The early pro stock guys were running low 10s and high 9s and were plenty entertaining. I'd love to put a Maverick, Camaro or Vega together. Add the right wheels and paint jobs, they won't look like or act like Super Gas cars.

Let's hope that these cars are NOT sitting 3-inches off the ground and have huge and long wheelie bars out the back and lay-down spoilers and modern aero hood scoops. In other words, wanting to look like Warren Johnson's latest Pontiac and NOT the early Camaros / Vega.

Hood scoop, vehicle stance and lack of modern touches is the key.

I agree, it could be a fun cl*** if done right and strict rules followed. No automatic transmissions or Lencos. Of course, that now means a field of Jerico 4-speeds which are a $4-5000 transmission so this definitly isn't what you would call a budget racer cl*** but then again neither was Pro Stock. I don't know......maybe a production/factory 4-speed rule: Hemi 4-speeds, Rockcrusher Muncies and Toploaders.

And just for the record the only four-door Nostalgia Pro Stocker I want to see out there is either the original or a damn good clone of the G&R Maverick.

Weight breaks and wheelbase was the deal on that car.

Hopefully they'll build cars like Ron Butler used to build. Those cars were some of the baddest looking doorslammers on the planet. His detail work was off the hook!!!

When will No Hot Rods Allowed get a clue?
I know, retorical question, but it needs to be said for those who are reading this.
What are the most interesting and fun-to-what cl***es now a days?
    'Nostalgia' cl***es.
Uh, back when cars actually looked like real cars, not some plastics manufacturer's nightmare.
Have you seen the lasted Hotrod mag?
It has a short note on how Ford is back into Pro Stock racing again with OEM part numbered carbon-fiber (or gl***) Mustang bodies.
Yeah, stretched way beyond recognizable and plastic looking too.
How do they do that? Make something look plastic by it's shape?
Anyway, until the powers that be at *HRA (or ***car) firgure it out that the spectators want to see real cars, they will continue to lose spectaor support for 'their' sport.

wouldn't 14x32s be more appropriate for that era?
