Wifey was dragging me around to the antique stores in the Gold Rush Country.
Did peak my interest when I found this...
She did not see the value in it that I did.
    Thought I would share here...

    I have that book!
My Bro in law rescued it from stacks of old books left over from the decommissioned US Naval Base at Argentia. They were slated for the shredder, but he noticed it in the pile and rescued it for me.
Damn cool of him to do that I thought!

I guess it was the literary version of saving a cl***ic from the crusher. :) :)

I love browsing used book stores too...and reading a good book, period! ;)

Cool Find! I also look for goods at thrift stores and flea markets and its nice to find an ol Hot Rod book ...

  12. Great score! I love to haunt old bookstores;it is amazing what you can find.I look mostly for books on art(signs, lettering, etc)and have scored some great collector pieces. One place netted a couple of old books on the art of Aubrey Beardsley. For those who are unfamiliar with him,he was a big influence on Mouse and Kelly when they were in their poster phase in the 60's.Did a lot of what would be considered soft **** today but pretty risque for his time(1890's 1900's).
Found a bunch at yard sales.Sometimes it's worth taking the time to rummage through old books;you never know what you'll find.Friend of mine found a book with a bunch of Maxfield Parrish illustrations.Paid a buck for it and sold it for over a grand.
Me;I buy them to enjoy but it's always nice to know you made a great score.

Neatest find in a used book store for me was "Ford, the Dust and the Glory". Great book, and I'm not much of a Ford guy! Anyone else read it?

I have that book. Amazon lists the same book in the $15.00 & up range in similar condition. Most of those are ex library books.
I'm betting you paid a buck or 2. Nice find!

I love old books- I have boxes of them & it's never enough. Nothing like finding an old book at some sale for a buck or 2. It's like owning a little piece of history.

Update- When I first got this book home I had found an envelope with a couple of WWII Gas Ration stamps in it. It had a women's hand writing describing the contents. I figured no one had seen them in there on the antique store would have sold them separate.
Anyway I had seen where some one had underlined alot of the important stuff in the book. There was a name also on the back cover. It bugged me enough that I did some "googling" and found the original owner of the book!
Just got off the phone with " Chuck" he remembers the book and the envelope with his Mom's hand writing on it. He was just a young lad in 66 when he bought the book and soon after went to Vietnam. He lost the book in the 80's in a divorce and thought the book was long gone. He still plays with hotrods too!
Anyway I told him I would send the book and contents to him free of charge. Just a friendly gesture one car guy to the other. He's going to keep the envelope and stamps and revisit the book and return to me for he feels it has a good home here.

Good deal,,I always enjoy hearing how good people go out of their way to see that something gets returned back to someone who lost it years ago. :)HRP

Check out alibis.com, used bookstore sell their inventory on line. The thrill is in the hunt but you may never find a certain book you're hunting without it
