Building an old International truck for a customer and he would like a ladder rack on it. How where they done back in the day? Wood, Steel? I was thinking some oak?

Find some used black pipe, and gas weld it together with coat hangers.

I agree that is defintly old school but looking for something that would have been on a contractors truck doing higher end homes. Black pipe wouldn't fit the truck. I guess it depends on the trade they are in also, Pipe = Plumber, Wood= carpenter?
