This one showed up at my place of employment last Friday. This car looks like it could take a month full of weekends to be a driver. It rules, I think it's even got that so called "soul" some hot rods are known to have.

Been in a garage since the early '70's. It's straight, no rust. Check out all the awesome little touches, this thing was NICE in it's day. Custom nerf bars, handmade roll pan (gas tank filler moved behind the license plate), Mercury y-block (didnt' see what kind of transmission.) The banjo center section and backing plates were chromed. Handmade front wishbones. Uhpholstered running boards. Weird pod on the header panel with nothing in it. Custom dash filled with Stewart Warner guages. Check out the shift knob. There was a box from J.C. Whitney in the trunk, unopened from 1973, with a replacement headliner in perfect condition.

I'm really glad Pistons and Paint was this weekend, because knowing the fate of this car after seeing it in person made me realllllly depressed. The body is getting taken off and put on a TCI ch***is....yup, independant front end, 9" rear end.

I guess it'll still be a hot rod....I just hate to see all the history lost like this. To each his own.

  6. I just sold my 32 p/u that was built in 53 and ran a flatty its whole life to a guy who then resold it. The new owner called me up to tell me he was cutting the firewall to put a SBC in it. Parting out the ch***is and putting a new american stampings frame under it I choked and and said oh yeah cool how much for the stuff you are selling?? This stuff must be like gold in Idaho is all I can say ?? I can buy the stuff cheaper on e-gay

Can a 34 with an independent front end be called a hot rod?

35 years from now, after its been rebuilt to 2006 street rod standards, some kid who hasn't even been born yet will be saying the same thing when some future owner brings it in for a hydrogen motor conversion and a flux capaciter.

"man... it's still gas powered, you just don't see that anymore"

  10. I'd like to end up with the nerf bars on my 34 3W. Please make it happen (smiles). Let me know how much.... THX

I am told the entire ch***is with everything on it is going to a new home, so at least some of it's getting out alive.

Damn, that thing is too cool as it is, and some guy with more money than brains is gonna **** it all up.

You need to find him a replacement and work a trade!

You guys are funny! Back when that car was first built, in the 70s, some restorer was crying about how that guy ruined that car. Didn't matter, the guy did his thing with it anyway. For that matter, it might had been already "ruined" before that guy got his hands on it. Now you guys are crying about this guy ruining this car, won't matter. Just proves that the more things change, the more they stay the same. Maybe this car was just destained to be ruined by hot rodders for all of its life. Who knows what will be in store for it in another 30 years. Probably some *** is going to ruin it again......

Keep going, I needed a good laugh today.

How do people find cars like that? Imagine you have a **** load of money to burn - where would you go? I'd look here on the HAMB, but no one here would ever sell something like that.

The interior is already gutted and the fenders are off. Looks pretty good without the fenders...it'll probably be completely apart by the end of the week.

I see this at work myself. Most recently a nice original '55 t-bird that is getting one of our custom 4 bar/MII frames and 4.6 supercharged Mod motor. I tried to talk the guy out of it, but he wouldnt hear of it. I accepted that, and he is paying us a whole lot of money to do it. Atleast he's building it to perform, and i know he'll drive the heck out of it.

The shop I'm at did the same exact thing with a '57 bird a year or so ago.

For the record, I'm not crying about it...I was on Friday but I'm over it now. Just thought some of you guys would like to see the car before it was turned into something...else.
