Many of the long time rodders I know look at the whole nostalgia thing with a "been there done that" at***ude. When they built those cars 30+ years ago, they were taking the best of what was new then, and making their old cars better. So many of them have that mindset now. Why run an old straight axle and a dinosaur motor that run and ride like ****. Why not drop in a ZZ4 crate engine and a TCI frame and drive the **** out of it. Especially since they've waited until the kids were grown and gone and have the money to do it the way THEY think is right. I love old style cars and love when they are kept the they were. But I really love to see a guy who gets his dream car they way he wants it and enjoy's the hell out of it after many years of waiting.
I agree, I have been accused of screwing up every car I have ever owned. I build my cars the way I want them, when someone is paying me to build their car I build it their way. To each their own, at least this one is not going to be rotting away any more. The only thing that makes me mad is that it didnt get dropped off at my house. I personally like old cars on (relatively) late model running gear, that way I can drive it anywhere and if it breaks I can get parts just about anywhere. Most of all, I like them simple. To me having a cool car and not driving it is like being married to (goddess of your choice here) and not sleeping with her. Dont listen to me all of the medical professionals and court do***ents say that I am nuts.
You guys have been pretty slow. I'm glade to see some major work but I also hate to see this beautiful car go under the knife.
I just hate to hear and see this type of stuff happen, An absolutely beautiful "survivor" being transformed into some gold chainer Street rod. Surely someone has tried to convince him to leave it alone ! He could probably sell it for enough $$$ to go get a street rod......**** !
This is so ****ing depressing. I saw the exact same thing happen to a pristine '34 five window at the rod shop I bought my rails from. In this case the M11 was put under the original frame. I was on the verge of tears. I don't care if you have a "it's his car, get over it" at***ude, I'm en***led to feel utterly despondent about this, it's akin to repainting the Sistine Chapel ceiling.
*******. You know, this is like taking a nose-high straight axled blown 426 Hemi powered '41 Willys coupe and restoring it. There's some things you just don't do. Dumb***.
More pictures on the way of the tear down. Also, ch***is is now up for grabs officially. And the y-block with adapter and yup....'39 Zephyr trans could be sold seperately. I'll let you guys know how much for the stuff when they decide on a price and I'll post it in the cl***ifieds. Untill then, pm with offers and I'll p*** it on. I don't think I'd care nearly this much if someone was restoring it. The word is, however, that it's getting whitewalls. So despite the belly****on motor and underpinnings, it will still sorta look traditional...
As proven by the Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction in Scottsdale and other over-priced places. Also proven by many cars(?) at the Good Guys shows.
too true...... i think there will be a lot of guys here who will grow up and become restorer snobs, its a rod& itll still be a rod ,id keep it as is but different strokes for different folks!!!at least its not on the s**** heap or crushed and on its way to china!!!
Maybe to each his own but my "each" thinks it's wrong. That car could be so cool............Sounds like one of the best reasons for fibergl*** bodies. They go great on new frames.
I wondered what the two master cylinders are all about. Have to look at something like this as an opportunity waiting, not a loss of history, it gives a guy a chance to build his own using the leftovers from the rebuild. Otherwise it's too depressing to think about.
I'm gonna bet that they'll be wide white radials. I remember when most of the 'gl*** cars that were out there were new frame chevy crate motor billet-mobiles. And there was a time (well before I was around) when there was many a steel car that was a little rough around the edges shall we say. Now the big craze seems to be (at least with the fibergl*** guys) making your car look like it was just pulled out of a barn. I guess I just thought it was kinda ironic that here's the real deal barn find, and he's gonna make it look more tame...like the fibergl*** cars used to be, while alot of fibergl*** guys are trying to make their cars look like his. The asphalt is always blacker on the other side of the centerline I guess... At least it's getting something done with it so it can be enjoyed by someone again...looks like it's been sitting in a lonely corner for quite some time...
After all the bashing about fibergl*** bodies, this would be a good place for one and leave this car alone.
