haven't been on here in a while- had a lot of shit to deal with- i am now another one of those guys who can write about their hotrod lifestyle not working with the married lifestyle-she got the house, i got my happiness. i have moved into a room above my friends hotrod/metal fab shop and am loving life once more- working on my pontiac and bikes, printing shirts and contemplating starting the worlds smallest skateboard company. the shop is great- my roomate is an insane metal fabber- this is one of the projects currently under way-merc being done to a customers unusual specs- it was a complete rust bucket- no floors, trunk, rockers, door sills- all fabbed
That is one very cool Golf cart. I knew a guy with a S-10 like that. Very Neat. I have a 914 just itching for a new "Motor"
[ QUOTE ] merc being done to a customers unusual specs [/ QUOTE ] Hmmm, I saw the first pic and I thought "that's not too unusal", then I saw the second pic of the "motor"!. Ohh crap! Thats got to be one mamajama of a motor to move that big Merc ! Is that a 5-speed manual trans too? Yes, "unusual specs" to say the least!
welcome back pat. sorry about the missus. or happy for you. whichever you want. tell us about the tranny. i always thought that with a dc motor you could vary the speed electrically and a tranny would be unnecessary.
No need to airbag or opther suspension work on the rear, all those batteries in the trunk will have that rear dragging the bumper.
hey pat ill buy yer 1st deck, hows that? you alredy have a customer. after seeing the second pic i figured hydrolics? and then WHOA! really didnt expect too see that
thats kinda neat, I wanna see a shot of the engine compartment after its done! I wonder how a hollowed out hemi with heads, intake, belts, and brackets/accessories would look in there, with that electric motor stuffed inside the crankcase would look! fool everyone.......... congrats on your new found happiness too, sounds like its going good for ya Good Luck
Use one of those plastic mockup engines over it, maybe even cut and plastic weld them together to make a w16!!!
dude thats the shit!!, electric merc!!, Look into local gov funding and help for people with electric vehicles, sometimes there are programs where you get DMV fee and special plates.
pat thanks for sharing.. glad to hear about your happiness.. good for you.. I have a friend who has an electric powered chev nova.. the cool thing about those electric motors is that because of the lack of rotating mass inside you dont really ever need to use the clutch.. and the son of a gun is whisper quiet.. I've ridden in the thing several times and other than the lack of a decent range its a pretty cool idea.. keep us posted
i'm curious to what kind of motor is used and how many pounds of batteries it takes to work,i guessing pretty expensive as well.
[ QUOTE ] I've ridden in the thing several times and other than the lack of a decent range its a pretty cool idea.. [/ QUOTE ] I know this is veering dangerously close to off topic, but what about putting in some sort of generator for in-flight battery recharges? You'd extend your range and, no more than you'd use the generator, still come out ahead at the pump.
Depending on how it's wound, the motor can be used for Regenerative braking. Otherwise you can use an A/C type cluth to contro the braking on hills and at stoplights. Advanced DC in Syracuse NY makes a 9" DC that is one Bad Ass little motor. If you guys are interested, look up David Brown, Shari Prang or KTA services (Industries?). Electric ROCKS. Now.....back to our regularly scheduled Traditional programming........BEEEEEEEP
yea...no fossil fuel needed to run that baby...well...except if ya count the power plant that has to produce the electricity!!! Sould be pretty quick I guess....full throttle means instant torque. Kinda hard to rap the pipes tho
Be sure to clothes pin some playing cards to your spokes so I can hear ya coming.....H ( surprisingly one of the bad points of eclectric cars people can't/don't hear you coming and walk out get hit)
[ QUOTE ] Be sure to clothes pin some playing cards to your spokes so I can hear ya coming.....H [/ QUOTE ] Well shit, man, with all that extra space under the hood you've got PLENTY of room for big horns
The Merc guy's name wouldn't happen to be Jim would it? He's a friend of my brother. I've been hearing about that car (it's a Monarch BTW... Canuck Merc) for a couple of years now, first time I've seen photos. Thanks for the shots. I can relate to your "new lease on happiness" policy too, Pat. I've been working through similar crap for 8 months now. Finally starting to feel human again.
WOW!!! KOOL!!! How about a on going complete parts and source list? I'd like to do that to one of my projects!! I've looked for info but usually run into "Let us build it for you" dead end.
DrJ there are some articles on electric power at Mother Earth News online. mots of them are from the 80's but still valid.
Cool Car....Remember this other rod..Lightning Rod II - the world's 1st electric street rod ??? http://www.evparts.com/about/index.php?show=roadster.ihtml
Hey Doc, I just e-mailed Jim for some more info and linked to this thread. He might jump on and fill us in with some details, or if he e-mails me back I'll post the info.
Cool Idea......a guy could put in a Limoblack sunroof that doubled as a solar charger...... OH!OH!Oh!.....How many MIDDLE EAST OIL MONGERFUCKERS does it take to run your electric Merc? answer:=NONE.
So, instead of flamethrowers it's gonna shoot lightning bolts?... It's still going to need some kind of soundtrack, I can't imagine a cool merc without some sort of rumbly motor sound. Coooool car Pat!
