well there are lots of projects being finished on the car still but ill post some stuff that has been done. heres the rear 1/4. I never cared for just chopping open a wheel well to make a tire fit. so there was a 71 mach 1's 1/4 patch layin around and well the car got some flares. pretty crazy how well they match the front fenders.
well i got most of the engine compartment sheet metal done. it will get welded in once the engine comes out. A filler piece will be made and bolted where the headers punch through to close the hole up a bit and to take the headers in and out easily. the opening is stepped so the filler piece will sit flush. i just matched the factory bead rolls from the drivers side to the passenger
I love Falcons and if I get another I will be building a gasser or an A/FX inspired car Love the work!
Front shocks are on and front perch's are welded. nothing crazy just simple brackets that get welded to the frame rail to hold the tops and tabs on the tube axle to hold the bottom. its about as sturdy as an international.
just a quick update. heres the 8 inch shortened and welded with the jig. all the brackets are tacked on and will be welded when the car gets blown apart. the rear shocks are done and i moved the panhard bracket from over the center of the pumpkin as far to the right as i could. ya want that tube as long and as parallel to the ground as possible. so ill get some pics up of that and of the gas pedal which turned out sweet. The chassis is (crossing my fingers) 95% done and just needs a few bars to tie in the subframe and driveshaft loop. the itch for paint is defently there, and i cant wait to show off the grill and front of the car but im holdin out a little longer on that. so till i get some more pics heres a shot of the new..er intake
Though... these stacks are cool too and are probably more period correct for this style car. Whatever blows your hair back!
sweet build, can't wait to get back on mine! think that 8" is going to hold up? i know they are good rears, just don't know how much power they can hold.that's what i'm using in mine. run it till it pukes.i think the weakest part are the axles anyway
the 8 inch will be fine especially with the moser axles. remember its a small block. id love to have say a cammer or FE but its what i can afford without delaying the project to "save" for something bigger and better.its all about having fun anways.
Neat! I'm usually not much for the straight axle thing, but your thread has had me reading from the first page 'till now! Nice work! You did mention that you shaved all the trim earlier on in this deal; Any chance you have the drivers door piece laying around still? I have had my '62 since high school in '82, and replaced the drivers door about ten years ago. before I could grab and remount the trim, someone else decided that they needed it (the door) for scrap value lots more than I did!
MAN, that looks good! I really like the front end grille/bumper treatment, post some more close up shots of it.
Looking good. Your 8 inch will be fine, these guys have run a 8 inch for years and been okay and it went a 12.25 at 110 this fall with a 1.76 60 foot. Jon
Started to get the mechanical side all together and buttoned up. Heres the gas pedal. i believe it was from speedway but was real sloppy and loose, so all the holes were bored out and hardware replaced. Hosted on Fotki and heres the alternator, fan, water pump, and hoses all mocked up Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki
