NOT honing a cylinder wall, is it recommended?

    I worked with a GM powertrain engineer who also built a nice little HAMB friendly rod. he said, no need to hone if there is still a crosshatch. put new rings in and go.

    I pulled the heads off my '91 5.0L HO motor with almost 60,000 on the clock and it still has the crosshatch pattern in the bores.... I'd still de-glaze them for new rings if I were to rebuild the short block..

    Sounds like they are just trying to sell more rings.

    It's possible for a bore to still have crosshatch showing, yet still need honing. Per my previous post, most people don't understand what they are seeing in a bore, so don't have the experience to make that decision.
