Message sent - in no uncertain terms. This goes against the basic guaranteed constitutional rights to every U.S. citizen: 'The pursuit of happiness'.
Again, folks...this is voluntary for anyone who might want to trade in a heap for some cash...If it passes, then people with crapboxes like mid-80's Chrysler FWD K-cars, mini-vans, Corrolas. Hondas, Granadas, etc., etc. will hit the crusher. 95% of what would be junked, you wouldn't want anyways. Nobody is coming for your car...geez I agree its a bad plan, and I too, oppose it, but the end of the world, it is not...
Yours...the past eight years has run the national debt up to 11 Trillion dollars...yeah, its been great hasn't it!
The $15B that went to the automakers, including Cerebus, which is a privately held company owned by super rich, amounts to $5k for every man, woman and child in the US. And the $700k that went to the banks? That comes to $233k for each and every one of us. And we're looking at another $675B+ "stimulus" after 1/20.
Nice!. From the same dipshits that got us into this mess in the first place!!!! Ask Old Pete, how he and his fellow geniuses racked up a 11 Trillion dollar debt...most of it to Communist China!!! Nice going, PETE!!!
Here's what I sent: Dear Nancy Pelosi, I'm writing to respond to the scrap cars-for-cash program I recently heard about. As a classic car enthusiast, I feel it would be a real shame to run this program now for the "Immediate economic gratification" that it may bring, as opposed to the greater naturally occuring economic gratification later gained via restorers and parts suppliers. I have yet to read the entire program, but would hope strongly that if it passes, a measure is put in place guaranteeing that any scrap steel gleaned from such operations remain in our great Nation for re-use.
Dear Bruce: Thank you for bringing your concerns to my attention. I appreciate the time you took to contact my office on this important issue and welcome the opportunity to respond. As you know, Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) recently introduced S. 247, the Accelerated Retirement of Inefficient Vehicles Act of 2009. This legislation would provide a voucher to those who turn in an older vehicle to use for purchase of a late model fuel efficient auto. As media attention has focused on this idea, it has earned the moniker "cash for clunkers." I realize that it is necessary to be creative in focusing on ways to combat climate change, but I think encouraging Americans to abandon their vehicles in exchange for one that may have slightly less impact on the environment is costly and wasteful. At this time, no companion bill has been introduced in the House. However, if I do see such a proposal I will be certain to keep your thoughts in mind. Throughout my tenure in public service, I have always kept an open door and an open dialogue with my constituents. As Congress addresses the many challenges facing our nation, I hope you will continue to share your thoughts and views with me. Accordingly, I encourage you to visit my Web site at http://brown-waite.house.gov to email me and find useful information about our 5th Congressional District. It is my honor and privilege to serve the people of <?XML:NAMESPACE PREFIX = ST1 /><ST1LACE w:st="on" xmlns:st1="urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:smarttags"><ST1:STATE w:st="on">Florida</ST1:STATE></ST1LACE>'s 5th Congressional District and my offices and staff are here to provide you with any assistance you may need.
