I think "a black primered pile" was a little unnecessary??? your opinion I guess, but a little unnecessary!!!

  5. YES, it is my opinion. But, did you stop to see in what context it was used? Or were you too busy taking it personal?
Also, someone, I believe toggling back and forth with you intertwined my rust comment with the black primer content, after they were two seperate issues.

Flathead Ford engines ... at least some of the 8BA-s were painted gold ... Joe

  9. Well, that's a bit one-sided. I meant it as a COMPLIMENT to the beautiful motor that was in question after someone said it'd look good in a black primer car.

I can't remember the last time I painted a Chevy engine orange!
Always paint engines to match or compliment the rest of the car!
Who cares what's original! This ain't Pebble Beach.

  14. Ya know I was thinking the same thing but on further research it seems that on some of the Rocket motors only the tin was gold. IE Rocker covers air cleaner.

Anyway now that everyone is on the gold motor band wagon I'm thinking of going in a different direction. But I am definately going to paint my wheels red. What does everyone think red Ansen Sprints would be real trad wouldn't they?

I painted my block satin black, nothing really special to see of my block and heads. I figured the accessories would stand out better against it. If I had aluminum heads, etc. that would be different.

i think this is just all a mixing of opinions here . yea you shouldnt call someones car a pile but it seams like every 17 year old kid paints his rig primer black and calls it trick . personally im NOT a fan of high gloss fancy collors cause it seems too showy for me and id be almost afraid to drive it . thats why i go for in between colors like nice suede colors or red oxide primer . its still sorta rat rod / hot rod-ish but its not the every other car flat black . its pretty much impossible to mess up a flat black job thats prolly why everyone does it .

I went through a period where I was painting all my engines gray. It was plane Jane, simple, different, and utilitarian. Besides, it's what's inside the engine that's important. Butch/56sedandelivery.

  18. Wow. 78 posts to tell someone most of us couldn't give a shit what color you paint your engine, be it natural rust, Chevy orange, purple, pink, or covered in gay rainbow flag decals?

WOW..Sorry your having such a bad day Rusty........

  25. Copper, as a few have mentioned earlier.
Although, contrasted against flat black body color, some of the neons would look pretty cool: neon orange, hot pink, neon green...

Oh, and I've always loved flat black on some cars -- depends on the car -- tri-five Chevys look great in it. Shiney is cool, too. Nothing against shiney.

Yea, I read that about keeping Flatheads cool, as that is a motor with particular cooling issues.

I'm a Chevy guy and yet I hate Chevy orange. Talk about always being conflicted............

Anyway, grab a spray can of this color from your local hardware store and see how you like it: bronze hammertone. ALso any of the other hammertone colors, but you light like this one.
