I know this is tech week, but it's not that O/T and it DEFINATELY applies to the H.A.M.B. I just finished this up and thought you would all like to see it. You all know the car, and I love it so I made my own as best I could. And the model: The flames are not nearly as red as they look in these pictures. They were the hardest part of the car, and aren't even 80% accurate, but the idea is there... SBC, fenderwell headers, Vette' valve covers Parallel leafs, Ford rearend, split bones: '59 Impala wheel Hard to see in the other pictures, but here's the license plate: Hope you all like it, I had fun building it.
Looks great. I think you pretty much nailed it. Actually, it's alot like what I'm shooting for with the '48, except for a little different paint scheme.
Nice. Anyone who's seen Ric's car or a pic of it will have no problem in realizing what the model is patterned after. 1/25th scale? Who makes the kit?
That's awesome. Also my favorite '40 coupe. I built my own version that was definitely inspired by the Big Ric '40. I've posted it before, but here it is again. Nowhere near as detailed as yours...
Cool models guys, nice work... But in case you guys didn't read the other post, you're going to hell for posting models during tech week!
Ryan said: "No OFF TOPIC posts this week - Tech posts and on-topic posts only." I think this is very "on" topic. It's hot rod related, right? K&R, tell us how you built it, then it would be tech related.

Thats some Art work!! I always wanted to do a 40ford. 1 question, how you do the flames,, Mask them off? or pinstripe? I tried masking the **** on the Rat Truck, was so F*cking hard, they were not even close at all... Nice Job!
The kit is the recently released Revell '40 Ford Standard. It's a 1/25 scale kit, and a very good one at that! The flames were a pain in the ***. I first tried liquid mask (bush this stuff on and let it dry, kinda like silicone, then cut out your design and peel it away) but that went horribly wrong. Then I tried masking tape, but it wouldn't conform to the contours of the fenders. So I ended up doing a combination of masking tape and liquid mask. The worst part was trying to reproduce the flames accurately. Then, I had to outline them and I did so with a white gel pen, and it doesn't look all that great, but it's gonna have to be enough.
[ QUOTE ] Im guessn the same for the Pin Stripe on the firewall...?... [/ QUOTE ] Acutally no. I hadn't thought to use gel pens yet, though it would have been to big i think anyway. I used the smallest brush I could find, size 0000 and some slightly thinned acrylic paint. There were a few touchups with white too. I then clearcoated over all of it, and it didn't affect the acrylic at all.
Yeah!! That's really cool...he's gonna **** when he sees that. I think you did a great job of replicating the flames...it was hard enough to do in 1:1, I can't imagine doing it in 1/25th.
Awesome job K&R. I think the job you did on the flames is excellent! Well done, I'm sure the big guy will love it. He'll probably ask you to do another one.
Thats way cool. I know I whould be proud if someone did a model of any of my cars. You can bet Rick is gonna be Flattered.
Awesome. I gotta say that having someone make a model of your car has to be the greatest compliment of all.

[/ QUOTE ] I've been thinking about doing your Ford too B***, It's on my list of favorites. Those flames would kill me though! Would take a week just to lay them out! 67 Imp...Not BR himself, but I looked around for a cowboy hat to lay in the seat but never found a good one! Everyone else...thanks for the compliments!!!
I love that car and the model!!! The 59 Impala wheel in his car hung in my garage before it went to a great cause!
have you tried that kit that testors sells to make your own transfer decals in your printer? just wondering if that stuff worked, as it would DEFINATELY apply to tech week...print out guage faces on it....my sleep deprived vocabulary wont let me go further with my explanation, but anyone who knows the product I am talking about will get the drift....if, IF it is worth the packaging it comes in.. nice model! I started to buy one of those the other night...start over on a fenderless 40 idea i had when I was in high school..... big ric oughta be reeeeeeeeeeeealy impressed with your efforts!!! I know I am, and would be if that was MY rig ya put in 1/24...
