Been reading the site for the last week and wanted to introduce myself. I'm looking to ease into rod building with my son. I'm coming from Sprint cars and diesel trucks. I've noticed a lot of similarities between sprint car building and rod building ( at least it looks that way, have yet to start on a rod)and I am looking forward to immersing myself in a buildup. I also own a large fab shop so I hope to be able to do all of my own work. I do have a couple of rookie questions though. Does NOS stand for "not original steel"? And when they call a vehicle a "gasser" what does that mean? In my circle we call anything that is not a diesel a gasser, but I think that the term as it is used here is different. Chris Webster
"NOS" usually means "new old stock" or it's also the name of a company that sells nitrous oxide setups. A gasser is a full-bodied drag car with limited (10% engine setback. I'm a former sprint guy too. I'm designing and gathering parts for a "T-bucket/modified" that will use a lot of sprint car and midget parts and have a tubular space frame along with some early Ford parts such as front and rear axles, wide-5 wheels, etc. Welcome....you'll fit in well. Lots of old circle jerks here.
Thanks for the welcome. I've got some lines in the water and hope to have something to work on and post pics of soon. Sprint car season is getting ready to fire up , so I'll have to be quick and get something started. Gettin' antsy to ride that 700 hp 1475 lb beast...
