Nov. 2011 Banger thread. Really...November?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Crazydaddyo, Nov 1, 2011.

  1. I got the plug out that contains the wafer for the SR pump. Not sure if it was the SeaFoam or Gibbs but it came out without any damage. Now I can see the wafer in there. It looks like I need to use a punch and using the four holes tap the brass and punch the other side out to get to that wafer. Is this correct? I do not see any way to screw the back side out. Thanks Ken

Update, talked to the person who sells the rebuild kits. You use a small punch and pop out the back to replace the wafer. I tried it and all went well. Carb is back together.

    Bill--
"first experience with locked rear end, but that is another story."

Something that I have wondered about for years--my only experience with a locked rear was driving a Frazer-Nash, and I was having so much fun that I don't remember the axle causing problems. Could have bought the car--which ran and drove great, and was in presentable condition- for $1500--but had just bought a new Dodge A100 van (POS) and couldn't swing the money. Wife would have left if I had been able, but in retrospect, the F-N would have been more fun.

  3. My experience was driving a very light dragster with 10" slicks on the rear and m/c size tires on the front on paved roads with sand and or dirt at intersections, a normal turn the front wheels would just slide some times requiring a 2 or 3 point turn. You did not try to come into the intersection "hot" on paved country roads driving that machine. Ask me how I know.

  4. Can anyone tell me what the attraction is towards Winfield carbs ? Is it the name, are they that much better than the more common Zeniths, is it because of their scarcity ? I would like to know as I have never known anyone in this neck of the woods that ever had one.

  7. Thanks Bill. Are they tough to find ? As I said, there are none that I know of in Thunder Bay.

Ron only an original sign is rough to find.

Carbs range from real easy to impossable to find depending on how much money you spend I think you need to get your motor setup the way it is for now.

Here's an original sign Mark Dees gave me after he died ........

We had a '30 Ford convertible and we found a deal on a new Cragar OHV conversion kit new in the box. Well, farm kids and modern things don't mesh well together. BUT... a couple of old farmers who were tinkers from down the road help us. BOY... did it come to life. We tried to keep the body as stock appearing as possible. We did move the fuel tank to the back, add hydraulic brakes and electric fuel pump and power wipers. But we had fun and blew off several unsuspecting motorists who thought they'd make a race of it. Fun days, fun times and a real fun group of guys. I miss all of it but time marches on.
