I was 3 yrs. and 4 months old, and it's the earliest vivid memory I've got. It was unseasonably warm in upstate NY, and my mother had the doors and windows open. I was playing with something on the living room floor (probably cars), and my mother came running in from the kitchen when the news broke over the TV.

Was working at the Chevron station, across the street from the Sheriffs Station in San Dimas, Ca. One of the Deputies came over and told us what happened. Sure was quiet that day, not much traffic at all, everybody watching TV

November 25th, 1963

The back row of Mrs. Tomashaw's sixth grade class. The school secretary came in, whispered in her ear, and Mrs. T turned ashen. I remember it like yesterday.

  6. I was stationed in Worms Germany with the U S Army.
Had just gotten back from working at the E M Club on base.
Spent the next three days on duty as a color guard for all the chapel services.
    We went to full alert.
When we all could get back off base drove out to see our Russian/German Jewish friend he had removed the T V and Jukebox from his small very German Gust House out in the country.
He would not bring them back in from the barn for over a month!
He really loved the USA and Kennedy.
We called him "Old Man" and he would call us "Rat Catchers".
What a fine man he was to know.

I was going to be 13 in 4 days, and was in Mr. Shelton's history class - was anounced over the PA system - some of the girls started crying - saw some lady teachers walk by the door that you could tell were crying. I don't think we got out early being a small farm town school. I remember very clear as I watch Oswal get shot on live TV, and the cops stood there in shock and disbelief. And then the funeral on all 3 of our TV channels back then. Those drums playing over and over the same beats. That was a weekend to remember forever.

Don't remember it. Only five at the time. Didn't pay attention to the news and I guess my parents didn't talk about it with us kids. Either kept it from us so we wouldn't be worried or they told us and I simply have no memory of it.

  11. Junior year of high school, I was in the library studying. They had the TV on when the first announcements came across the wires. One of the girls went into hysterics. Like everyone else, we were glued to the TV for days afterwards. The 24th was my birthday. I don't think my folks even said Happy B'day.

Seven years before I was born, so of course I remember nothing.

I was in Mr. Garrison's history class at Poly High in 1986, though, when we learned from another teacher that the Challenger had exploded.

That's the closest I get to a JFK moment--and no, we didn't get the rest of the day, or the week off of school. It was pretty much business as usual, but everyone talked about it.

I was home. I was suspended, with about 6 others, from high school for starting a riot in the cafeteria. Well riot is strong let's just say a disruption. They closed school and extended our suspension.

Went to the NY Custom Car Show that weekend. At least I believe that it was that weekend. We wondered if they would have it.

Jesus, These nutjobs are STILL out there?!

I was 8 years old, home from school because we were going on a Cub Scout field trip. It was cancelled.

I have memories like still photos in my head from this time. Adults crying, Ladies with short white gloves on and men wearing Fedora hats at church that Sunday. The streets being unusually quiet for days. It marked a true turning point in our history. Rest in Peace, Mr. President.

I was in the 10th grade. We had walked down the street to a little sandwich shop. Walked-in and the old Italian shopkeeper was watching a small TV, crying. I don't remember eating lunch. As we went back to the school, everyone was in chaos. I remember one asshole guy cheering about it, just as one of the gym teachers picked him up and threw the asshole into a wall...sad! Later that cool, rainy, Friday night in New Orleans, my dad went ahead and drove me over to a friend's place to complete the purchase of my first car, a '39 Ford DeLuxe. I was outside that next Sunday morning working on it when Dad hollared out the door at me that they had just shot Oswald. Certainly, a weekend I'll never forget. Hard to believe it's been nearly fifty years. DD

  23. I was just 19 and working for my uncle in a small N.E. Indiana town at the time. Was across the street in a diner having lunch when the owner came in and said the president had been shot. Everyone was stunned. Went back to work and everyone was crying. Very sad day. Now...anyone who thinks Oswald was a lone gunman must still believe in the Easter Bunny. Oswald was the fall guy, the patsy. He was murdered to shut him up. There were witnesses who stated there were up to four shooters from different directions. E. Howard Hunt confessed to being one of the shooters before his death. Google him. This was the Coup d' etat!

I was a high school junior in electronics class when the news came on the intercom. The school was a madhouse after that.

I was in study hall in the auditorium (my junior year in high school) when the principal made the announcement over the PA. Girls all around the room started crying. All us guys tried to tough it out but a few broke down. The ride home that day on the bus was an eerie trip. No horseplay, just everyone quietly staring out the windows.

It was weird to be watching it live on TV a couple days later when Oswald bought it. Our whole family just sat there in shock as Jack Ruby lunged forward and shot him.

Definitely a part history I'll never forget.
