Yucaipa Junior High School eighth grade . Mrs. Biddick's (yea lots of jokes about her name) penmanship class. She had us all write down the date, time, and events and our feelings. We were not graded on the exercise. They had an assembly scheduled later in the day with four black singers. The first time I ever heard "Going Home". No not the Ten Years After tune from a few years later.

  3. Softmore?? Did they put saltpeter in the milk at your cafeteria? God, sometimes you people kill me. Axels, breaks, origional, Camero, etc.
Anyhoo, I was walking from PE class to lunch when the announcement was made. Our principal was seen crying. Under any other circumstances, this would have been fodder for our softmoric humor. Nobody ever said anything about it.

6th grade. We had just finished our history lesson which ironically was about the assassination of President Lincoln. We were sent out for recess and when we came back in our teach said "you're not going to bekieve this, but".
    Wow 48 years.

    Couldn't agree more.

We cuss and bite and spit at each other for being Republican or Democrat, white or black, hispanic or or Native American, rich or poor... BUT...if you're crazy enough and unfortunate enough to piss us off in total as 9/11 showed, well...at least for awhile....I still don't think there's a force on Earth greater than America.

I was in the third grade in Moss landing, CA. The school secretary announced over the PA that JFK had been shot. We were all shocked. our teacher was visibly upset, then 15 minutes or so later the school secretary announced that he died. She was crying over the PA. That's when I realized something very bad had happened. We all were watching the TV for the next few days, saw Oswald get shot on TV just as it happened. I will never those times or that day..

I was in Kindergarten. Remember being sent home after watching a little on tv at the school while the teachers cried. Remember the day like it was yesterday.

Was pumping gas at Seth Miller's Union 76 station, California and Raymond, Pasadena, CA, customer drove in and said "radio says someone shot the president," we wondered if he survived, then looked down the street to the flag at the Huntington Hospital -- it was at half-staff, then we knew, so spent the rest of the day telling customers, most of whom did not believe me....

Grade nine, announced while changing classes. They sent us all home for the rest of the day. Was a scary time.

First year of college at General Motors Institute (engineering), Flint Michigan. I was in drafting class (with about 200 others). the PA system announced that he had been shot and the school was being shut down for the day. I walked in a daze to my car and spent the rest of the day driving around trying to get a grasp on what it all meant. My girl friend (now wife of 47 years) had just shaken hands with him less than 10 days before and it took hours to get through to her in Florida where she lived with her parents. Unless you were there you'll never know the universal sadness that gripped the country for the next few weeks and it had nothing to do with which political party you favored.

  21. Sophomore. I remember that word from Ebonics class. The sentence was:
"Downy makes your clothes sophomore than Gain."
