I realize you can't "un-ring a bell" but wanted to offer my apology to Dan Kahn if my earlier comments in this tread came across as a personal attack. We have never met, and it was inapropriate for me to seemingly pass judgement of him or his talents. My earlier post has been deleted (I hope!).

Its cool winfab, no hard feelings. Thanks to Ryan and Brush for the kind words, you're both good friends.

One thing that cracks me up on this board is how there seems to be a cycle of R&C/CR/Goodguys bashing that goes around about once every few months. Like Ryan said, constructive criticism is always welcome. If you have a legitimate suggestion or complaint, and you can describe your problem in detail, write a letter to the editor. That's the only way we know whats up with our readers. Posting a bunch of random negative***** on the HAMB doesn't get you anywhere, because the editor doesn't ever see it.

Like RF said, I don't come here as a rep of the magazine, I come here as a car guy looking to hang out, see what my buds are up to, and maybe learn a thing or two. Seeing people talking smack about me for no apparent reason is kinda like walking into the clubhouse and witnessing your fellow club members kicking around your dog.

As for the lonely sad old fellow who called me a****... well, Santa Barbara isn't all that far away my friend. Save those kind of comments for when ya see me in person.

I like those little modified kits........they look like a lot of fun to drive.....they're definitely no more of a kit car than a SoCal/brookville roadster, they're just more honest with the packaging....... I'd personally love to own either of them.......if it weren't for packages and repros like these only the old guys who hoard all the old parts would have them.......I love Picasso's and the other artists work in CR and R&C lately...... Thom and Foose's drawings were all getting way too stale....... these 'new' artists impressions haven't begun to be heard yet......I think I might be the only person in the world who can say he's tattooed the editors of both these magazines....... I'd like to see another great design contest agin.....Rob won't return my calls.......and I'm broke so I WILL be using his mag as TP........I think the modified should have a big 'Jesse James' cross on the side with a Coop sticker on the cowl......you would be mortified to see how many Kansas Farm boys have WCC stickers in the back windows around here.......DrJ, your truck deserves a serpentine belt system......How 'bout CR or R&C covering an event like someone driving their car across country to Paso or to the Austin show from California.....RF*****s cause he sold the Ranchero AND the truck out from under me.......people who paint their suede cars shiny are sellouts......I'm STILL looking for a 58 Plymouth and 51 Packard side trim......I'm painting on a 6 ft tall girl, a WWII bomb, decklids and hoods for the Mooneyes show in December........maybe I should go back to trash cans, toilet seats and mailboxes......or cutouts........Keith Weesner rules the art world even though he doesn't know it yet......he and Stanford are gods among us.........Ryan*****s.......I have a chopped and shiny Chevy in my garage again....... soon to get a shoebox Ford back from texas......... can't wait to see Socal in december........ gotta get my RF, Skinny and Jimmy fix..........the Hamb is a bunch of grey haired, pot bellied wannabes....... Hey, I just described myself........

R&C - always been one of my favorites...
I like most of the others too. CKD, etc.

I read what I can in the*****house or sometimes just when I feel the need to Konnect with my Kewl~Kousins in the Kar~Kulture~Kult. K R A Z I E [IMG]

I pretty much feel anything on the subject is better than nothing.

To be creative and different, reinventing your ride with each mod, refining the processes, new twists on old ideas, building something very cool but never seen before, SELF expression with an antique automobile.

DOING WHAT YOU CAN WITH WHAT YOU HAVE.

GOD BLESS THE HOT-RODDERS OF THE WORLD!

+ I truly dug on the body mods to the 67? Chevy shortwide in the other post.
Maybe to some not a "true HAMB car", but OH SO SWEET to me.

"We're" a scrappy bunch, but it is supposed to be for fun.

How come you didn't do an article on the proper way to shake a can of Rustoleum?"

    You don't shake Rustoleum.
Stick it in a lathe, put the back gears in, spin it for five minutes.

Lotta interesting comments, but I think we need to realize that magazines are a bit like TV.
In that TV absolutely consumes entertainment and magazines absolutely consume articles.
And the trouble with that is, you gotta do it all over again next month.
Not to mention bring the new guys - regardless of age - up to speed on various aspects of the hobby at least once a year.

I don't know how they do it.

I like to write and most of you probably follow the bi-monthly FSRA mag/newsletter put out by C-Word and a few - very few - of his cohorts.
I have a tough time making the every other month deadline.
Maybe because I have a lot of other distractions in my life.
Some important, some not so important and few a total pain in the****.
For me, a bit of an education as to how it does go in the mag world.

So, knowing that the mags do need information, articles and constructive criticism - spell that guidance - let's each lay out one idea of what we'd like to see in the mags.
Not the overall direction we want them to go in, but a specific article.

For me, I'd like to see a well executed article on street roll bars for roadsters and the other open cars.
I run one - a 4 pointer, 2 1/2" x .120 wall - in my 32 and I feel like I have a good handle on what's required, but I would still like to see some additional info on the subject.
Especially so since my once upon a time Bonneville bound 31 roadster is headed for the street.
A roll bar goes in before the engine gets fired.

Call me worrisome or call me stupid, I don't care.
I've been upside down in a car.
    Have you?

    Yes, yes I have.

All I can say is that no matter what is said on this board, the magazines will continue to roll off the presses. This board, albeit large for a message board is a mere drop in the bucket when it comes to real time distribution numbers of a magazine. It is a viable outlet for some feedbck, but for the most part, it's usually only 5 or 6 people talking....and Dr. J

Some months are better than others. Overall, I still renew,
I like the mag. I was in specialty publications years ago (not auto related) staying fresh each issue is tough work, and pleasing all readers in each issue is a near impossible task. Scribe and RF deserve a lot of credit.
Just leave OUT the motorcycles....plenty of good bike mags out there, not enough good car mags. I used to ride H-D. I got out when the yuppies got in. Now ya got the middle-age "instant bikers", brand new retro-Harley, wearing two full cowhides and a do-rag, even to the grocery store in their brand new bad-ass BLACK pick up truck with BIG H-D stickers and the requisite vanity plate declaring they ride a HD-XLHFCHLTCXYZTGIF, as if no one could tell by their costumes and $40K Ford F-150 Harley Special.

HD = a clothing and collectibles company that specializes in hype and just happens to sell motorcycles on the side!

(For the past several years, anyway!)

Love the old ones...hate the new ones!

The sad part is, a lot like hot rod's, the "masses" have takin to the "image" that goes with having a HD or hot rod for that matter..
I had a customer of mine come into the shop i work at, he had just bought a new HD.
All the bell's and wistles..He's telling me about all the extra chrome stuff, the pipe's he ordered etc..
then he said they were dropping it off at his house within the next few days.
When i asked him why he didn't ride it home, he told me he's NEVER ridin a bike before!!!
    True story!
He spent over 20 grand for a bike, and he had never been on one.
What ever happened to buying/building something because you have a passion for it..not strictly for the image that goes with it.

Now he's Mr. HD with the sticker on his tahoe and the clothe's etc.

    Rat...

What's the deal with the do-rags....does every white person, deep down inside, want to be black???...I really don't understand. Aunt Jemima was never my role model...Superman was, but I quit wearing my cape when I was five years old.

Check out the inside back cover of R&C. It's a full page ad from SoCal Speedshop, all devoted to clothing.

Which has nothing to do with the content, or the writers and editors.

But it was the last thing I looked at when I closed the magazine. I had that ad in mind when I started this post.

For whatever reason, they sent me one of each covers this month. [IMG] i too hope the bike stuff is kept to a minimum. Maybe there will be articles on things such as aligning bell housings, rebuilding old Ford steering boxes or part/bracket fabrication to offset the two wheel content.
R&C is still the best monthly rod magazine out there.
