  1. I just talked to the head of NSRA and he said he wasn't too happy about the change either. The times have forced the issue.

I understand the position they feel that they are in, however, I don't think a rolling 30 year, across the board sweep, is the right decision. There are several other options that they could have ran with.

  3. Ahhh, the voice of reason.
Personally, I'll be sad but not so much affected if this does spell the end of the N$RA, (I like tha $ in there). And that comes from a guy who's been to every Knoxville event since it came here. I love the show and all the other NSRA shows I've been to but, if this is the end so be it. I can't wait to see what takes it's place. I'll probably stop going if it turns into a donk fest but, there are already plenty of alternatives and room for many many more to come along. I hate to sound like little miss sunshine but the gl*** is half full guy's.

Oh, I disagree. Think about where the fair grounds are in most major cities. I just hope the guy in the '79 Caprice with the 22"s and giant M&M's painted on it comes next year. I've always wanted a closer look at it but, I'm never out of crack when I see it around.

This whole thing about NSRA is just a bunch of cry babies, trying to get help to support there hurt feelings, Is it about $$$$ sure it is, the prices of everything NSRA does has incre***ed each year, not just the fair grounds, but everything including the entertainment on Fri. & Sat. When you go to the Daytona Turkey run you don't ***** about the newer cars, when you go to Good Guy's you dont ***** about the newer cars, The Street Rod Nationals was started in 1970 at Peoria, NSRA wasn't formed untill 1972, Vern Walker jumped in and saved this great sport, he even re-financed his house to get NSRA off the ground, and you want to ***** and intise all your friends to wear Adolph Hitler arm bands in protest, That shows your real mentality. When NSRA started your car had to be 28 years old to be involved, Did you ***** about the Allards, the Crosleys, the Willys, or any of the other cars that no longer are in production ? but where old enough to enter the NSRA shows, If you don't like a 78 Monte Carlo then don't go, or is it he might beat you for best paint. NSRA is still the best bang for your buck bar non.

You'll get a closer look for sure BUT you'll hear the car coming first cuz those guys don't roll quitely.:D

Can I appreciate their "pride & joys"? You bet, lots of effort, craftsmanship, skill, etc goes into producing some of those cars BUT I don't care to travel hundreds if not thousands of miles to an event to look at, and spend time next to, cars I don't care for. There is a huge difference between respecting someone's car for what it is and enjoying spending a weekend parked next to that car.

It will be interesting to see next year about this time who actually attends these new & improved NSRA events, and enjoys them like in the past, and who is just blowing smoke now saying they are going to go and embrace these DONK and Yugo loving dudes and dudettes.

I wonder if Wings music is going to cater to these new members?? They certainly aren't interested in listening to do-wop and the other stuff he currently plays.;)

Everyone talks about all the Hugo's and Gremlens and all the load sterio's I dought very much if you see any such thing, It would be nice to see a really tricked out Hugo with a V 12 ( extended wheel base of course) these protesters need to just wait and see what happens, NSRA isn't begging them to come, back when NSRA had the custom & Van division , the car owners would not even support it, so I dought if you see a lot of activity from the newer car crowd. Wings will still be Wings and do his thing, he has a nice 57 Chev. at least Mona his wife did, so he likes some of the newer cars too.

Maybe we could park the pre 48 rods at one side of the fairgrounds and stick them somewhere where they can show their whatevers.

Hell Yeah...NSRA when too far with the 30 year cut off rule..I would more prefer a cutoff of maybe 1964 or even 1972...either one works for me as I have it covered...I have a 1962 Chevy Impala AND a 1934 Ford coupe

Edit; (I got on a rampage. Let's dump that for what it's worth. Here's the short version)

    I'm old enough. Nope, Yugo/"Carlo, whatever, with whatever wheels don't intimidate me. As the song goes, "not as good as I once was, but as good once as I ever was". Yes, I agree that loud music at a car show is irritating to most sane people, no matter what kind of music it is, rap, rockabilly, do-wap, cl***ic country, etc., played so loud you can't hear yourself think is offensive. Have cut a few coax's in my time, and I don't discriminate.:D The reason I don't go to Good Guys anymore, because the irritanting din comes from the Show Producer's booth! Edit;

I'll simply repeat my stand, I prefer shows that don't exclude anybody, for those that do I always have wondered what they are afraid of........................
I know one thing for sure. If I decided to stay home, nobody would miss me or anybody else that bailed out. Anybody that thinks otherwise, I think is kidding himself.

When you are in a non moving traffic jam, sandwiched between ********ers in their dubmobiles, blasting (C)rap music loud enough to shake your car, high on drugs, packing military style hardware and there is no way out - as I was for nearly an hour at Hot August Nights in Reno in 2007 - that is what I am afraid of. HAN allowed lowrider ********ers and donks into their show - the same could happen to the NSRA. And if the promoters ban them from the show, when they qualify inside the cutoff year, maybe they'll get a discrimination lawsuit slapped on them - that is the danger they run. The show was nearly shut down by the 1998 riots - see link to article below. Now you know...

To use your words, Weasel, Totally flawed logic - !:D You are piling illogical on top of the illogical; (picture my wringing my hands in fear) Hmmm Okay, now I get it. So it’s more about the different social groups that you have an aversion to, not so much the different cars. I have no problem with them either, I go to the Cinco of May show here every year, mostly lowriders and trunks full of hydraulics and sound equipment. Different strokes for sure, but a welcome diversion for me, and they get a kick out of my truck, (they call it an anti-Q), most questions are "what year is that?", and "where would I put the speakers?". I get along just fine. Loud music at ANY car show, including my favorites; Country Rock/,rockabilly, do-wap, cl***ic country, etc are out of place, but at 5th of may it's the culture and I get it, still go, and wear my ear plugs.
As it is with every show the more diverse my experience is, the better. It would be pure boredom to have a bunch of cookie cutter wheeleless with sbc's and billitt, what many NSRA people would prefer. There, I give them my car to look at and if they/you want to turn their nose up at it, ****'em!

As far as fearing a dude driving a lowrider, I might find the owner of a Traditional Hot Rod more intimidating and just as well equippd to kick my *** than a guy playing loud rap. :D
Besides, fair is fair. Since I pack hardware to defend myself, I expect the ********er should be allowed to do so also, shouldn't he?

Oh, did I forget ta'say I like all kinds of cars and people?
    .

  13. Well put.

I was wandering the same thing about the music. Wings played some real **** at Knoxville this year. Definitely not the same old thing but, not change I can believe in either:D. I know It sounds lame to a lot of people on this board but I like listening to real rockabilly (from the time period in question) as well as do-wap, cl***ic country (again, from the era) etc... at a rod run. It adds to the atmosphere, for me anyway. I wondered if the change in programming had to do with the change in sponsorship from PPG to Lokar, if it was related to the coming 30 year rule or if Wings just had his head up his, well you know.

I hope the sarcasm came through when I said I wanted a closer look. I like pretty much anything on wheels but I draw the line at Donks, F&F type ricers and mini trucks. The one thing they seem to have in common is the Million watt sound system. As others have suggested, I predict some friction over loud stereos and bad at***udes.

I think NSRA should have stayed with pre '49 cars and added just '62 Falcons.:D

My thought is NSRA went too far with the 30 year cut off rule..I would more prefer a cut off of maybe 1954 .And that would get rid of all the 55 chevy and 68 Camaro and also 66 and 70 Mustangs . at 72 you still have all the lowrider guys and the music and cars jumping around just my thoughts .What about us guys whoo have been building cars just for this show and now you can drive a 1980 buick regal in the gate and hang out . Hope it dont go through and the keep it pre 48

Its the sign of the times guys........ But what we need to remember is it about cars and people. There are so many things happening that want to rid us from the roads of America and the things we love.... our sport !! NSRA, Goodguys, SEMA and others are doing there part to keep that from happening. We need to support them and keep this sport strong. Not go off on there choices. If thats what it takes to stay in business, its there deal. Doesn't mean I like it , but I love my hotrods and the freedom to drive it where ever I want, any style I want. If we lose these guys that are fighting for us, then its a matter of time before the real change comes and we can no longer build what we want, let alone drive it.

Actually Goodguys' Rhinebeck, NY show is 18 years old. Hershey was moved to Pocono, PA and is only in it's 5th year.

Actually the best thing to do when you don't like something a company does is to tell them about it.

I have seen many ideas from rodders implemented at Goodguys over the past five and a half years. Any good company wants return business and will do what it takes to make happy customers.

They've got to get some younger blood into the management of that organization.

Everything about their shows are geared toward geezers that show up at 5AM to power park their pastel painted luxo cruisers under their taj mahal tents, sip on geritol, rub each other with ben-gay, talk about how they built their car twenty years ago, and leave the show at 2PM to get the early bird special at golden corral.

Entertainment? Is there anybody under 70 that goes to those pathetic concerts that they put on?

If it wasn't for the huge number of cars, and some good friends, I would be bored out of my friggin mind.

They run their shows like a bunch of nazis, have you ever read the registration form??

"OPERATION: Event management reserves the right to restrict entrants to acceptable behavior during any and all activities of the event. Open headers and unnecessary tire-spin, or any other reason an entrant or their vehicle, their appearance or conduct are deemed objectionable by event management, entrant and their vehicle will be subject to eviction from the premises. Any poor behavior off the event facility will be reason for denying admittance of vehicle and entrant to the event. This reservation includes persons, things, conduct, printed matter, or any act or item of poor character which the event management considers to be objectionable to the event’s well being."

That's right, they can deny admittance based on your "poor behavior" outside of the show -WTF!

    I need a beer.

Poor behavior at the event:eek: ....I'm surprised they didn't have you arrested after your antics a few years ago.:D

Besides L'ville I didn't even realize they had evening entertainment at the venues.

The power parkers that grab the circle area at L'ville are going to FREAK when Yugo's, Chevettes, Citations, Town Cars, Imperials, etc all are parked in "their" spots. Or when the whole Corvette Club from Bowling Green beat them in the main gate at 5am and there's nothing but a sea of Corvettes along the main drags and circle.

I believe we've only just begun to see the "revolting". I should start lurking on a few 'streetrodder" sights and see what they are saying about the situation.

Dang it! I just checked my home phone answering machine, and I missed a call from Bubba Bugg today, at about 1CST. I sent an e-mail back to the info@nsra-usa.com mail box, and hopefully he'll catch me on my cell phone tomorrow.

I think the 30 yr rule is a bit extreme but who cares? I say custom cars are good period! I get sick of people whining about everything. If you are not happy, don't go to an NSRA show. Better yet, start your own hotrod organization and format the show the way you want it to be and see how successful you can be. Everyone thinks they know what is right or how it should be, so shut up and do something about it. make your own show. Maybe then, you can appreciate that 1972 chevelle sitting next to your 28 RPU. Sometimes this group seems to have such blinders on... Wake up and realize that we must adjust with the times. Step up or step aside...

we make parts to 1958 and have been selling them at nsra for years, th elast few years 1/2 of what we sell is 49 and newer, have been personally talking to nsra management for 7+ years to open up to newer cars and kept pushing, there biggest concern was not that they did not see it but , they were very carefull not to piss off most of there customers. and they have eased into it slowly to try and make everybody happy.

sure it will be different, but remember it is all about the cars
