I am thinking of going Friday the 1st. Never been on a Friday. Is the show field pretty good on Friday? Better than Sunday? Sent from my SM-N910V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
It is usually busy on Friday. Saturday is biggest. Sunday varies depending on weather. Our gang goes up on Wednesday and gets to host hotel Thursday after breakfast and watch the cars come in all day long. Many leave after getting their registration and taking a walk around to see the other cars. We enjoy the relaxed time and a chance to catch up with whoever comes by. Weather is the biggest dampener(pun intended!) on attendance.
If the weather is good Friday is very good, gets pretty crowded Sat. I go Thursday through Sunday, have gone around 17 years now. Weather has a lot to do with how things go. We have had some great years with sun and warm temps to years with storms ,rain, cold, and in between. Still one of my favorite events.
I've been going for over 30 years, when the car count was over 5,000. Now, Saturday is the big day and for the past 10 years or so, the count is around 3500. I commute from an hour away, and if the weather is good I'm there everyday. A lot of people like me, generally skip Friday if there is heavy rain. With good weather, I would guess there may be 2500 cars on Friday. Sunday, half the crowd heads home early. If you are only going 1 day, go Friday.
I always get there Thursday afternoon. To me, the Thursday layed back hanging out in the headquarters parking lot is the highlight of the weekend.
I was asking because I want to do the Fords at Carlisle on Saturday. Sent from my SM-N910V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
........................If you can swing it, do Fords @ Carlisle on Fri. and head on over to York Sat. morning.
I had a commercial booth at York for 15 years and did good on Friday, great on Saturday and died on Sunday. Stayed about the same every year
..........................A lot of folks head home early Sunday morning, especially if they have a long trip ahead of themselves.
I always enjoyed Friday better at York. Not as crowded. Easier to get food and talk to the vendors. I have not been there since they started leaving in the newer cars.
If weather is good, Friday late afternoon/evening is a good time to cruise highway 30 and/or sit along side of the road. Also go by the Holiday Inn off Hwy 74, its where registration is and always has 100's of cars to walk around and look at. Good weather brings 1000's of lawn chairs and tailgaters out on Friday and/or Saturday afternoon/evening...
We used to have some good times at York! But when they eliminated camping on the grounds I quit going.
I here ya Ted, the same here. I still go as a spectator on Saturday only. It's not worth all the expenses of Motels, NSRA dues, etc, etc. But boy did we have FUN in da good old days. Ron.....
Friday: Hazy, hot, humid. When the clouds drifted over and the light breeze picked up, not bad. Car count seems off. Outdoor swap meet good for this event. Indoor vendors fairly lame. The thing pictured below, we’ll , draw your own conclusions. ***mins turbo- diesel; wrapped exterior, suicide doors.
Just returned from York.......have been attending NSRA East for over 27 years...... sad to see attendance and quality way off......only about 2500 registered......used to be at 5000 in the hay days. Swap meet area was almost completely empty........they now sell bathroom renovations and fork lifts in the vendor buildings. Cars into the '80s were in the show areas......average age for car owners was about 70!....scooters abound!......looked like a geriatric ward. Still nice to see friends and some great street rods/hot rods.....
Part of the lower attendance might be the compe***ion with the Carlisle Ford show. We attended both, York on Friday and Carlisle on Saturday- and the Carlisle event was well attended. Beyond that, paying $17 at the gate to see the same cars as last year, seems silly. I don’t mind the newer cars, what you are not interested in- just walk on by.
