Fake numbers on doors are another cliché - a bandwagon that everybody and their uncle started jumping on along with 'faux patina'. It's gotten old and lame....
As you can see the numbers on my door are V4F. Which stands for Vintage 4 cylinder Flathead engine. The GR means it is a Gas burning Roadster. The number 104 was just the number I got when I started racing with SCTA and has been my number on the two cars before this one as well. The numbers on street driven cars mean that the owner wishes he was a racer.
I figured it started some place, at some time in every car owners life. I knew the AA, ect for FED dragsters, or nastalgic/ gasser racing. The whole alcohol, Nitro methane fuel. But as I scroll through threads on this site, and Autorama's and small shows, I figured it was a mix between something as explained by Richfox, and bdotson. Cool !
