Who has done it? Santa delivered me a new set last week, what a guy. One benefit of not working on your car for over 2 years is saving a little money . So, right now my doors are stripped. No window channel, no fuzzies, no gl***, no vent, etc. I am installing all of the above, new. My question was, what should I do first? I would ***ume I should install the channel first because I think the gl*** has to be removed when you replace that. I was thinking I would install the channel, reinstall the vent window, install the nurelics regulator and rollers and then install the window. Anyone that has done the install please share some tips. Thanks
Nurelic electric windows are installed in exactly the same order as the standard window regulators. They are installed before any of the window channels fitted. This is so you can check their operation before you put the gl*** in. If you are fitting the regulator switches which utilise the original window winder handles you need to be very careful. I hooked up up a set in a 56 RanchWagon and the switches have proved problematic. This is because people jumpin the car and think they are manual windows putting excessive pressure on the micro switches. They are not extremely robust and will become damaged in very quick order. The owner of the car has not been impressed with this flaw in their design. Consequently his drivers window goes up and down fine but the p***enger fails constantly. In retrospect it would have been a better install to use the usual rocker switch setup. The kits otherwise and instal neatly with no problems with good clearance for the gl*** and channels. They are model specific so the finished result looks factory.
I sorta have them in my car. The fronts are in but I can't seem to get the rears back in there (operator problem not a Nu-Relics problem). The only real problem I have had is I can't get the drivers window to line up properly (it starts to drag at the top) and I have no more adjustment. I checked with NuRelics and they said to check the gl*** to make sure it is straight in the channel (or mount, not sure what to call it) but I have not gotten to it yet.
I got the FTFG switches with mine, not the NuCrank type. I thought those were a neat idea, but figured they would get broken in short order. I am setting my window gl*** with tape in the frames. Does anyone have any pictures of the quarter windows with the lift channel on it? The quarter gl*** is a couple inches longer than the channel and I wont know if you split the distance, or if it should align on one end or what? I hate to get it in there and then have to remove it to realign it.
Maybe you could make a pattern out of heavy cardboard and place it in the opening then run the channel up under it to find out???
