Got a call form a guy in Rochester, how he got my name and number I'll never know, but here is the deal.

He has a gl*** 34 Ford he bought from someone in Kentucky, and it was ***led as a 2004 casue that's when it was built, and now he is trying to get a NY state inspection and guess what...yep they want it to p*** as a 2004, which it will not.

    Anyone run across this?

Options other than getting a new ***le?

Thanks, i want to help him out.

  2. Probably should throw away the ***le and start over again, NY should let you register it as the year it replicates, or there's a lot of gl*** cars out there that are going to have problems.

New York does have a fairly simple procedure for non-***le (1972 and older) cars with no paperwork, but I'd be hesitant to use it on a high dollar finished car.

Or he could just go someplace else for the motor vehicle inspection and see if he can find someone who isn't going to be **** about it.

sounds like the problem lies in the inspection process as there is nothing to scan to the inspection machine? Damn good question. That is quite the pickle

  4. I had a 34 Chevy gl*** car that I built a few years back. I bought a 1934 registration and never had a problem.

  5. NC has a SEMA type reg. so the deal tudorfritz did won't wash here anymore. I'm in the same boat with my gl*** Willys. But if I understand the rules here you have to conform to the year of the engine. If so my 413 oughta p***.....

  6. The problem with using an old registration is NY issued you a new one every year you renewed the car, until they went biannual relatively recently. There could literally be 50 registrations out there with the same number on them and you don't know who's already used one.

How did he get it registered? Did he pay sales tax on it? Does it have any vin number on it? Normally you take a tracing of the VIN and apply for a lost registration, all pre 73 had registrations, 73 and later have ***les. I hesitate to say anymore online. But if he paid sales tax the first time around and he doesn't want to pay it again, he is going to get it to be OBG II compatable. Or deal with NY DMV and change the year.

  8. Sounds to me like he got it with the 2004 ***le and went down and put it through as a 2004 car. They wouldn't know any better at the DMV.

I don't know what you mean by "lost registration", they changed that several years ago, it's just a couple of forms and you have the last owner sign one, pretty simple. The rest is the same, the VIN pencil etch or a photo, the weight, and the usual stuff.
