NZ Flathead V8 at Bonneville

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 4eva4banger, Sep 2, 2003.

  1. Any of you guys that went to Bonneville see the 34 roadster called "Kiwi Down Under Taker" campaigned by Garth Hogan, Gary Martin and Andrew Rea. The car runs a Whipple blown 284cuin flathead with Hogan designed dual plug heads. Andrew drove the car to 180 plus mile per hour and busted their own five year old record!

    Car number 287
    class XF/BFR
    entry name Hogan, Martin & Rea
    old record 170.165
    new record 183.584
    Driver Andrew Rea

    Most of my pictures were taken while hanging out in the long course staging lanes, since they are a short course car it's likely I don't have one. There's enough information here now that other B'ville hambers will be able to know if they saw them.

    Hi 4eva4banger! A buddy and I were in the land of the long white cloud back in the day and I recall a Garth Hogan who had a '32 or '34 Ford sedan (purple in colour I think) in the 1970 "Autorama" rod show in Christchurch, NZ. He belonged to the "Rod Benders" club. He would probably now be in his late 50's or early 60's. Wonder if it's the same guy? Regards, Dave.

  6. What a small world? I cant recall Garth owning such a car or if he was in Rod Benders. However he has a very fruitful drag racing career and is getting back into it with a FED. He owns NZ's largest performance parts company and also an aeroplane restoration facility.

  9. I can say proudly that all of us Kiwis in the rodding and racing fraternity are very proud of the valve in block achievements of our Kiwi team. For that matter we are very proud of all the Kiwi teams that have taken part!
