Just a quick question about judging plaque authenticity. Anyone bought an O’Briens plaque made from one of the originals? I understand their was a manufacturer in Chicago as well as Speed Gems. They had their company info cast in the back. Does O’Briens repops have the manufactures name cast in the back or is it just plain? Thanks I have emailed O’Briens and have not received a reply back yet . Yes , I can call them tomorrow as well.

Thank you HRP . His site doesn’t show the back part and I see he has the rights to the original manufactures.

There are thousands of plaques that were cast by small town foundry's that do not have anything on the back.

Back in the day Boy's High School in my home town made car club plaques and over riders in shop cl***. HRP

That's how we made the club tag for Scavenger's of Coconut Grove Fla.,only made 8< at the time in Miami Sr High shop, that was one for each member.
As far as I know, all have been lost. I had done the first art work,so could redo.
I airbrushed sets of T-shirts for 2 other car clubs back in the early 60s,as far as I know, nether ever had alum tags made. "Grove Ranger's",,and the"Little River Rats"< not rat rods, only reference of were an who.
I was in two other clubs also, Road Rebels and Road Saints, both joined in highschool as well. 015.JPG

Our Car Club, the MARQUIS was formed in 1958, but over the years dwindled down to nothing.
A few years ago (4) of us re started it, with the permission of some still living original members.
The original club plaques were made by O'Brien.
When we contacted him he still had the original plates, so made up a bunch for us :)
Perfect Old School Work, and we are very happy with them.

A long time ago I bought a plaque from O'Brien that he had the original old pattern for. It was probably a Speed Gems original. A club from my home town, a decade before I was born. There is nothing on the backside.

To show you the crowd I ran with a guy was making a plaque, had it all ready to go. A couple of us Characters took the buck apart and dug it out to within about an inch and a half from the sides. So this thing was just one big hallow block, about half way through the pour the instructor lit up. The poor kid that had his Initials on the top had some explaining to do. L O L

I was looking at one on eBay, (actually 2 or 3) I guess an original that I see O’Briens has a pic of and I like original but the price on eBay in the end has me maybe thinking I can live without. But maybe I can get O’Briens copy and get a couple made of my Dad’s old club done up. Fast Elvis with the Purple People Eater thread has one.
