It is amazing how many ways guys will find to attach themselves to any vehicle that has an internal combustion engine. I too have a tractor, albeit one that is stock and just functional.

Bought it from my favorite uncle several years back, glad I did as he passed away last year.

It is your basic 1950 Cub, functional (provided the rust doesn't clog the fuel bowl) with some mechanical work done several years ago (carb, clutch and tune up). In need of cosmetics and tires.

Not mine yet, maybe someday. 95 year old neighbor with his pre ww2 Eimco power horse. 4 wheel drive, rein driven and used every summer since new, by the same man. He says that it has been like a friend to him. He treats it like his father treated his team of horses. I have a Farmall super C wide front end, not too specisl, but I did bring it bsck from the dead with a stuck engine so it means something to me.

I owned a 1947 MC John Deere Crawler with front blade, I regret selling it. However, I have worked on Deere Industrial equipment since 1977. worked for a dealer for awhile that was ag and industrial.

Thanks noboD, I had wanted one of these for years. It is a 461c.i. (4 3/4 bore x 6 1/2 stroke) 4 cylinder and a hand crank only. It starts on the first or second crank about every time.

It would be pretty cool all painted up...Seeing a green Allis if kind of weird to me, I haven't seen many of the older ones...But then again people think my dad's J.D. MI(it's the first post in the thread) is odd because it's orange but's it's an industrial.

I say paint it, the patina looks good but that deep green looks REALLY good

yes paint it old and rusty is NOT always best !most farmers took care of their working stock whether a Horse ,ox or tractor and tractors were usually a huge investment I live in what was dairy country and very few pieces of farm equipment were just left to rust away.Any machines that survived the 40s and 50s war efforts obviously meant a great deal to someone or they would have ended up as tanks or ships in the scrap drives.just my 02

Leared to drive on a neighbors Massey Harris 20, harvest corn with an Oliver Super 88 row crop. Love them Olivers.

I enjoy tractors, pops owns an excavating company, so I have been around industrial stuff all my life. I think that is why I like farm equipment so much. I restored this ford 5000 diesel that pops purchased brand new:

He bought it for his dad, because he (my dad) was making good money on the railroad and thought his dad deserved a good machine. It was their main power on the farm, and they farmed a decent amount of land. Later my aunt used it on her farm, and it got run into ground. My aunt's ex husband sold the cab it had, and pretty much beat it to death because it wasn't a JD. It was in pretty tough shape when I finally got it back. I still have yet to find a decent set of fenders for it.

  21. If you like old tractors and have Direct TV (Satelite), or possibly some of the other cable suppliers, check out RFD-TV and "Machinery Of The Past" and "Classic Tractor Fever" and "NTPA Tractor Pulling". They are weekly shows all about tractors.

When do they come on, JG? That's actually why I've pretty much quit watching RFD, I never see any tractor shows anymore. :(

Yep, my father-in-law is hooked on the RFD-TV. I've got a 9N out back that does the work around our house. Love to tell un-suspecting car guys about the sweet '42 Ford I found in a barn!

RFD-TV is flippin' sweet! Some of the speakers/narrators on the shows aren't the most exciting, but I dig it...

  25. Put a magnet in the gas tank to catch the rust. It worked for me. OldWolf

  26. Sorry, I can't tell you the exact times. I just have my DVR recorder set to record those shows whenever they come on. You could probably find the times in the 'guide' section. Neat thing about recording (anything) is that you can 'zap' the cotton-picken commercials. ;o)

I've gotten to where I think I like tractor pulling more than drag racing! So much mechanical ingenuity, innovation, and the pulls last longer and are closer to the camera.

Search "Tractor pulling" on YouTube (dot com) for some examples.

  27. I learned to drive on a Ford Super Dexta when I was 9. At 11, Dad bought a '67 Massey 165 gas that was just about worn out. We rebuilt the engine, repainted it, new rubber, and tach. When I left for the Air Force, it had 2400 hours on it, most of them by me.
I love the sound of a Super Stock tractor woofing at idle and lugging towards the full pull line.

Here is a pic for you tractor guys. I just replaced the side cover gaskets on my 20-35. Check out the size of the rods on this thing. It is a 461ci 4 cyl, 4.75 bore x 6.5 stroke. The caps on the rods are about 3" wide and approx 12-13 inches long.

Pulling my 1949 44 Massey Harris out for the first time this year with my 1951 JD 60.
    Dad bought the 44 new.
Lots of hours as a kid raking hay on that one.
The 60 was used for plowing and pulling a two row corn harvester when I was a kid.
After my dad and I restored the 60 he antique tractor pulled it for years before he died so I guess I'll have to hang on to them.
Not my main hobby but kind of fun to take in parades and even putt around the farm.

The 60 is a twin cylinder with 330 cu.in displacement and approx 38 horsepower.
The Massey is conciderable less and you can pull more with a rope over your shoulder but being Canadian made is a bit rare even up here.
