Try living in England...every traffic light has a red light camera, they have fixed speed cameras usually hidden behind a bush or tree so you can't even see them.In the big cities they have police operated CCTV cameras monitoring downtown where all the night clubs are.
As for the red light cameras and speed cameras its been common knowledge in England that if the license plate is smeared with vaseline, the numbers can't be read in the photograph,it shows up opaque.:D

***No it doesn't. Being in the intersection on red isn't a violation, as long as you were past the stop line before the light turned red. If caught in the intersection when the light changes, you have the legal right to carefully clear the intersection. The cameras are triggered by a sensor at the line that is activated when the light turns red - if you are past the line, you can't trigger it. If they are set up any other way, it's illegal. Of course, everyone who has gotten a ticket was past the line, even when a cop was watching them. Nobody EVER runs a light.

***Even someone like me can see I didn't say that being caught in the intersection caused carnage.

***The amount of time allocated yellow is set by speed limits on the road, as well as traffic count.

***So you claim that none of the violations caused are people who are really late on the light, just the ones who are barely late on the light. Like the ones that speed up to beat the yellow to red, and cream the guy making a right turn because he saw the light change, and was right at the point of making the turn, and didn't see the guy that was barely late? It never catches those violators who are really late?

***Intersections have always been defined as the area outlined by the stop lines. (Those are the extra lines next to the crosswalk, for people like you. )
Accidents that aren't in the intersection proper are classed as intersection related if there is a relationship.

***If there's not a cop at the intersection, he wouldn't get anything. At least in some states he will get points that will lead to a suspension, if he runs enough red lights with cameras.

You must have a degree in traffic engineering to have all of those facts and figures to bolster your argument? Or maybe you attended the Southern Institute for traffic? 20 years of traffic enforcement? Any links? (Especially the ones about the cities (apparently ALL of them?) changing things to trap people) I'd REALLY like to read them....

Speaking of redlight cameras. We voted "NO" to them in Texas, however, every new intersection around my area seems to have the cameras or the mounts for them....what's up with that?

It's only a matter of time until the slip the camera activation bill as a rider to some bs "Unwed teen mothers assistance act". "Gotta get the easy vote". I used to work for the TX AG's office and they slipped a bill in to stop people with back child support from getting a marriage license into some obscure funding bill so I'm sure they'll do it for the camera's too.

Legislated morality really gets my blood boiling sometimes. I understand that we do need some laws but sometimes I just feel that things are getting way out of control.

If you really want to get paranoid look up the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency for the Total Information Awareness System. Creepy

O.K. guys lets bring this thread back on track. We all agree there are questions about the ability of the car in this article to reach 147 and the legimatiacy of photo radar tickets. Now answer these questions about the cars YOU drive. Are they safe at the speeds you drive?

My dodge minivan with the BIG 3.3 V6 is safe till about 300mph...then it has a slight vibration......probably from the roof rack catching air. I always wear my seatbelt, so you can call me Mr Safety.

that story is BULLSHIT. That car will not go that speed. this is hype from the Media. It may go 100 on a good day, but no way is it running 147MPH.

  14. You're starting to sound like a new car ninny. I personally haven't liked that part of this thread from the beginning. The whole "it's old, is it safe to even go 55" kinda vibe. Fuck that shit man. I don't own a 50 year old car because it looks good in my garage. If you half assed know what you're doing then wheels falling off isn't really a god damn problem and if you do have wheels falling off, get a fuckin new hobby. Take up knitting and try not to stab yourself in the face.

Whether I go to the store or out of state, I'm in my 53 and all 4 wheels stay on the car. I've never had a flat or a blow out with my car either because I keep new tires on it at all times. I don't put more than 10,000 miles on a set of tires. I've had enough blowouts and flats and tired of it but ya know what? Every blow out, every breakdown, every flat, every problem I've ever had on the road has always been in a modern heaping pile of plastic cup holders.

These hot rods and lead sleds are more reliable than anything else on the road, and you wanna talk safety? I trust a classic car driver over a fella in some crappy import any day.

It's not all car man, it's almost all driver. The car didn't make that retard speed through Scottsdale.

This thread is annoying the shit out of me. I've been enjoying it when we make fun of the cops, the cameras, and the dumbass that was pinched but this whole "is your car safe" thing is really making my skin crawl.

  16. "It is this "the government knows whats best for me to keep me safe" mentality that is destroying everything this country once stood for, and if you believe in it you are part of the problem"

Safety is big business and the Govt is making sure anything we do is illegal and everything they are doing is designed to fleece you of your hard earned dollars. LEGALLY I might add hehe.

FWIW I agree with Dr Toner as well. U can have all the fucking ABS, airbagged to the hilt new cars u like, fact is if your a fuckwit behind the wheel in ANY car you'll still end up dead or killing someone else. Its the soccer mom, idiot teenage girls, blind elderly, insufficiently trained punks and politically correct do gooders that dont know how to control a motor vehicle that are a danger on our roads. Most of these clowns dont even know how to put air in their fucking tires.....and they call themsleves motorists? HAHA....

Here in Australia - I gotta tell ya, speed cams and red light cams are a fucking JOKE. In Melbourne alone there are over 2700 MOBILE cameras in operation and over 3x as many fixed red light cams - the State Govt is raking in over $150,000,000 per year from this fucking scam. Funny how they recently reported a budget surplus. This is becoming an election issue here...thats how much of a problem it is.

Anyway enough....most of the guys on here know the score. I say if there is any means with which you are able to protect yourself from these motherfu**ers, go for it and more power to ya'all.

If your ride isnt safe dont drive it until it is - its not worth it. Check everything over until you are comfortable that its good to go and know your rides capabilities at speed. This way, youll live longer and actually enjoy the ride....

  18. Longroof, this thread got my attention. But your post totally hit home, on many levels... Orwell, yes! Huxley coming soon, at least if Czar Bush n' Co. have their way.... Now wheres my soma, damn it. Ok, back OT(?) Not that I'll be in AZ all too soon, but thanx for the radar car report. A long time ago, when I was a ute in da city, we would go down to the police precinct and write down the info on all the totally unmarked cars. All parked inside the fence with the regular cruisers. Some, we actually knew before they were "confiscated" by the powers that be (were). Two that I remember were a 67' Vette' that had a filled rear panel and a "stingray" script as the tail lights and a 69' Camaro the ruled the streets. In three years of regular street racing "no one" ever beat that car... including the guys that would pull their drag car of a trailer onto the streets. Next thing we knew, it was a cop car!!! Wow I haven't thought of that in years....

orwell maybe, but being in the risk management business, I do know that there are studies out there that have many government agencies and insurance companies talking about everyone being made to wear a "gary busey" helmet in public.

    here comes the safety police.

  20. Wow, this one got alot of you guys fired up! Here's my 67 cents worth. I don't even remember what the damn car was, but it sure the fuck don't go 147 mph. Rental cars, beat on em', period! Gov. + safety = insurance lobby +political contributions=higher profits + higher rates - personal freedom= 1984 (see last post or read Orwell)Quick bury yer handguns and Hilborn FI units. Radar cameras, telephone monitoring, clunker bills crush the old cars to keep GM profitible, run yer 11:1 motor on chineese food grease.....

Anybody remember the really big speedo mount on the dash of cop cars for when they used to have to "clock" your speed? Didn't work fer shit till they got turned around and "raced" you! Gov. is to big, the rich are too rich, the average guy ain't payin' attention and I want a 150mph renta car!

What the Fuck! This is Jolly Ol'England? POLICE STATE. I would be on that band wagon, Burn'em ,Shoot'em and decimate them ASAP. They would not last long here. There are too many HillyBillies with Ridgerunners with bolt action, Leupold equipped tack drivers that would delight in putting their lights out, pronto.
Keep up the good work. Never let the man get your back.
England is toast. Get you ass into the US right now. They are going to give amnesty to everybody who is in the US in the next year. We have states where there are no speed limits in areas. I just drove from Los Angeles to San Diego (140 miles),at 7.00 P.M. Friday night, traffic was moving 80-90MPH all the way. Everybody is moving at that speed in solidarity. Hillary Clinton is going to run for President of this here United States of America on the "Save the Fossil fuel and our Ozone layer", 55 MPH max speed limit. The Republican who will kick her ass is going to run on the "Flat out on Fossil Fuel", lets burn it up so future generations don't have to deal with it. We will have high octane in abundant supply for our lifetimes !

Yeah, sometimes the equipment is smarter than the operator --

When I reported to Ft. Gordon, GA for Signal School (1972) they warned us about the MPs who used us Signal types for a training exercise.

One super trooper got checked out on his new VASCAR rig that was "accurate to the tenth of a mile per hour" so he wrote up a lieutenant for doing 30.1 in a 30 mph zone.

LT took it to his commander, who took it to the school commander, who happened to be the post commander, who "discussed" it with his deputy, who happened to be the MP school commander -- and we all know what flows downhill.

Six months later MP's still didn't see the humor in the situation.

And to end this thread on a good note, here in Melbourne (world speed camera HQ) a couple of years ago a woman got a camera ticket for doing 160kph (96mph) and took the Government to court and won the case on the grounds that her '74 Nissan 1600cc would not go that fast!! Seems the newly erected cameras on the ring road where installed by the 'dodgey bros'!
Guess what happened next, there was such a hullaballo set up on public radio that the guvment refunded 12 months worth of speed tickets to over 1 million drivers including yours truely who got back $120.

  28. Here its the same thing if you're willing to go through the trouble.

If you're willing to appear in court instead of paying your fine, and plea not guilty, take it to trial and argue that it was not accurate you will always win unless: You were pulled over by two officers who utilized Laser. Any other way about it and you'll always get off. If they used Radar, what was the weather like, etc.. And judges know this information by heart because they hear it so much so all you have to do is ring the bell and they dismiss it. A fucken radar gun will show a building doin 55MPH.

  29. Yes ,,,my roadster is safe,,,but once it's driver DID push it's limits,,,,,

Is it safe for any of us to drive at those speeds,,,probably not,,,,,I haven't run it that hard again on the interstate,,,,notice the white knuckled death grip on the wheel! HRP
